Alleys of North Kolkata still hold the reminiscent nostalgia of the bygone colonial era. Still the old breathing, colonial houses embellish the streets, reminding us of the once glorious city that has become a retirement hub now. How sad it feels to see a bustling, futuristic city getting drowned in irresponsible politics and a degrading mentality towards easy ways.

I have witnessed the death of a city, the death of my beloved city, Kolkata.

A majestic Brahmany Kite was sitting on the high branches of a Gulmohar tree. The white- crested predator is a medium sized predatory bird that feeds majorly on fishes, crustaceans, insects and smaller reptiles and mammals. These birds are widely distributed in South and South East Asia and Australia. These birds also have a symbolic reference in Hinduism as 'Garuda', the mythical bird from Ramayana and is widely considered to be auspicious in various countries such as India. Sri Lanka, Bali, Java and Sumatra.

Kasavanahalli Lake- An oasis preserving the native flora and fauna in the middle of the ever growing Bengaluru City. The pathway encircling the lake covers almost 2 kilometres and is covered by a natural canopy of native trees. The skyline from the lake is blocked by the modern apartments which have been constantly shredding the human mindset with materialistic wants and foolish desires. The resounding silence of the lake overpowered the noisy surroundings. The chirping birds, the hurtling crustaceans, the vanishing fishes in the lake and the swishing sound of the wind made the first morning of 2026 mesmerizing.

The blunt faces, the ever-busy souls, the bustling life and the sour relationships do not hold any place in my mind or heart. My heart craves for solace, peace and self-awareness. One must understand himself first in order to understand the world. One must question himself in order to comprehend his own mistakes.

The Night is better than the Day,
It hides, it plays and even preys.
Skies lit up in different shades,
Different from what it looks like during the day;
From red to white to blue and grey,
The Night is always better than the Day.

- Yours truly
