Ashokenagar Natyaanan Presents “Meghnad”
Playwright: Sudipta Bhowmick
Direction: Chandan Sen
Meghnad is Ashokenagar Natyaanan’s evocative production inspired by the life and vision of one of India’s greatest scientific minds—Meghnad Saha. Celebrated for formulating the ionisation equation that helped unlock the mysteries of the stars, Saha was not only a pioneering astrophysicist but also a thinker deeply committed to the role of science in shaping society. Founder of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics and the journal Science and Culture, he devoted his life to building institutions that could nurture scientific inquiry in India. Fiercely rational and outspoken, he stood against superstition, caste prejudice, and divisive politics, believing knowledge to be a powerful force for social progress. In Meghnad, the brilliance of the scientist merges with the courage of the reformer, portraying a man who envisioned a nation guided by reason, equality, and intellectual freedom. Featuring Chandan Sen, Shantilal Mukherjee, Panchanan Banerjee, Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Rajatshubhra Bhattacharya, and the entire Natyaanan ensemble, the play becomes a tribute to a legacy where science and humanism walk hand in hand.
