:: Concerns regarding Dance Instructor Ms. Ishani Mazumdar & Official Statement from Calcutta Dance Academy ::
This message is addressed to all Dance Academies, students, well-wishers, and patrons. We consider it important to share the following matter as it raises serious concerns.
We would like to inform that MS. ISHANI MAZUMDAR was associated with Calcutta Dance Academy as a dance instructor. Her services were terminated on 22 April 2026 due to repeated concerns regarding inappropriate behaviour with staff and students, instances of misconduct, and gross negligence in conducting her scheduled classes.
We also observed a pattern where few of the students who got enrolled in her classes at our academy, and discontinued within a short period of time. Subsequently, through publicly available social media posts from Ishani’s profile, we found that some of these students are continuing training with her independently at a different location. While we respect every student’s freedom to join elsewhere, the circumstances surrounding these transitions raised concerns for us. It’s not fair that the students who got enrolled in Ishani’s class in our academy, left the academy and learning from her independently without informing us.
Also, she is having a friend named Akash Bairagi, who used to teach here at Calcutta Dance Academy. He left the Academy stating that he is moving out of Kolkata, but later we found that he is still their in this town, opened his own academy. We believe that all those students left us, might have joined their academy or might be taking independent classes from Ishani.
With all these concerns, we terminated Ms. Ishani from our Academy, which we never did earlier with any of our instructors, and as that was not required either. Further to inform that at the time of Ms. Mazumdar’s termination, all dues were settled in full on the same day. We had no intention of making this matter public. However, immediately following her termination, we noticed several negative remarks about the academy being posted on social media by Ishani. Also, with her instigation, few of her friends posted 10 fake reviews about the academy in google reviews on the same night of termination, i.e., on 22nd of April, 2026. Our google review page is open to all, and you may visit and check.
This is for information that we already discussed the matter with our legal team and if this type of erratic behaviour from Ishani is further being continued, we have no other option but to take strong legal and penal actions against Ishani Mazumdar under applicable laws.
We would also like to advise fellow dance academies and institutions to exercise due diligence against Ishani Mazumdar before engaging her for your academy, or if she is taking classes in your academy. The things happened with Calcutta Dance Academy can happen with your academy as well.
Calcutta Dance Academy has always maintained positive relationships with all past and present instructors, and this is the first instance in which we felt it necessary to issue a public statement of this nature.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
