आशिन विराथु ने इस्लामिक आतंकवाद, इस्लाम धर्म और मुस्लिम समुदाय को लेकर तीखे बयान दिए थे। उनके मुख्य विचार और बयान निम्नलिखित बिंदुओं के इर्द-गिर्द थे:
'इस्लामिक आतंकवाद' का खतरा और पश्चिम का उदाहरण:
विराथु ने अक्सर दावा किया कि वैश्विक स्तर पर इस्लामिक आतंकवाद बढ़ रहा है और म्यांमार को उससे सतर्क रहने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने कहा था:
"तबाही मचाने के लिए केवल एक आतंकवादी का होना ही काफी है। पश्चिम (यूरोप/अमेरिका) में क्या हुआ, उसे देखिए। मैं नहीं चाहता कि वैसा मेरे देश में हो। मैं केवल लोगों को सावधान रहने की चेतावनी दे रहा हूँ।"

ऐतिहासिक पतन का तर्क:
उनका तर्क था कि अफगानिस्तान, पाकिस्तान, इंडोनेशिया और मलेशिया जैसे क्षेत्र किसी समय बौद्ध या हिंदू बहुल हुआ करते थे, लेकिन समय के साथ इस्लामी प्रभाव के कारण उनका मूल स्वरूप समाप्त हो गया। विराथु के अनुसार, अगर म्यांमार के बौद्धों ने अपनी रक्षा नहीं की, तो म्यांमार का भविष्य भी वैसा ही हो सकता है।
जनसांख्यिकी और सामाजिक विस्तार का डर:
मुस्लिम समुदाय जनसांख्यिकी (आबादी) बढ़ाकर और स्थानीय बौद्ध महिलाओं से विवाह कर धर्म परिवर्तन के जरिए देश पर कब्जा करने की कोशिश कर रहा है। इसके आधार पर उन्होंने बौद्ध महिलाओं के अंतर-धार्मिक विवाह पर सख्त कानूनी प्रतिबंध लगाने की मांग उठाई थी।

"मैं अपने लोगों की रक्षा कर रहा हूँ। मैं केवल मुस्लिमों के प्रति लोगों को सचेत कर रहा हूँ। इसे ऐसे समझें जैसे कोई कुत्ता किसी अजनबी को घर आते देख भौंकता है ताकि मालिक को चेतावनी मिले—मैं उसी कुत्ते की तरह हूँ, मैं सिर्फ भौंक कर सतर्क कर रहा हूँ।"

आर्थिक और सामाजिक बहिष्कार की अपील:
उन्होंने अपने अनुयायियों से मुस्लिम समुदाय के व्यवसायों, दुकानों और सेवाओं का पूर्ण बहिष्कार करने का आह्वान किया और बौद्धों से केवल बौद्ध दुकानों (जिन पर '969' का प्रतीक हो) से ही सामान खरीदने की अपील की।

The threat of “Islamic terrorism” and the example of the West: Wirathu often claimed that Islamic terrorism was increasing globally and that Myanmar needed to remain vigilant against it. He said: “Only one terrorist is enough to cause devastation. Look at what happened in the West (Europe/America). I do not want that to happen in my country. I am only warning people to be cautious.”

The argument about historical decline: He argued that regions such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Malaysia were once predominantly Buddhist or Hindu, but that over time their original character disappeared because of Islamic influence. According to Wirathu, if Myanmar’s Buddhists did not protect themselves, Myanmar could face a similar future.

Fear of demographic and social expansion: He claimed that the Muslim community was attempting to take over the country by increasing its population and converting people through marriages with local Buddhist women. On this basis, he called for strict legal restrictions on interfaith marriages involving Buddhist women.

“I am protecting my people. I am only warning people about Muslims. Think of it like a dog barking when it sees a stranger approaching the house, so that the owner is alerted—I am like that dog; I am only barking to warn people.”

Appeal for economic and social exclusion: He called on his followers to completely boycott businesses, shops, and services operated by Muslims and urged Buddhists to buy goods only from Buddhist shops displaying the ‘969’ symbol.
