Artwork finished alert !!!
After spending about twenty months on the drawing board – from April 2024 to November 2025 - I can now proudly announce that I have finally been able to finish my latest artwork ‘Land of Happiness’ ! During these twenty long months, it was not that I could devote time on this every day. There were days when I couldn’t touch the artwork due to other preoccupations or when work needed me elsewhere. Then there were times I felt like starting another artwork, but then decided not to do so for fear of not being able to return back to my Land of Happiness. Now that I have achieved my milestone, I would certainly miss my quiet moments lost in those greens, blues and yellows and the grey mist enveloping the valley!
So while I lift the curtains on my latest work, I would like to draw your attention to the myriad details that the valley hides. This is the Phobjika valley in Bhutan – nestled high up in the hills with green meadows stretching for miles. As the mist lifts off, the valley emerges. Cows graze in the foreground and narrow paths meander through the grassy meadows far into the hills. Coloured Buddhist prayer flags flutter in the wind, and if one hears closely, one might even be able to imagine catching faint notes of buddhist chants wafting in from somewhere near those foothills!!!
Enough of my ramblings for now! More on my next post, which shall be a reel on the completed artwork! Until then, I would sure love to hear your thoughts! All of them!
Thanks for watching !

Showing some more progress on the landscape with a selection of pencils currently being used. Talking of pencils, I recently acquired a nice set of Luminance pencils which have also now found their way into the mix.
While the artwork would certainly still take another month or two to finish, I am loving working with the pencils and am in no particular hurry to finish. It’s such a lovely experience and feeling working on the thing one loves doing! The empty spots on the right side of the artwork have now been filled in and it’s time to work on the foreground.
Thanks for watching !
All feedback appreciated!Work-in-progress!

It’s been more than a month since the last update. Hours have gone in, but as usual, the progress has been slow. For me, these hours spent are meditative. I have decided to name this as ‘The Land of Happiness’. The journey is peaceful and happy, and the experience is calming!
As you see this artwork, what are your thoughts?
Work-in-progress!

Returning back to what I love doing the most…and after such a long time. The urge to start with something new was very strong, but then I decided to persevere… ! The valley has beckoned and so it’s back to the drawing board on the unfinished one… !
Slowly coming down to the verdant plains with cattle grazing peacefully. It’s all greens and yellows, with a mind-boggling range of shades being used.

A few more hours spent on my current artwork ! It’s all layers and layers and layers… that’s the mantra for any coloured pencil artwork. There are way more details than can be seen at a glance ! This is a 9x9 inches crop of the original 10x15 inches image so that the details can be seen up close. It will be quite some time before this is finally finished ! Until then, stay tuned !

A new artwork started after quite a long time. It’s going to be a verdant valley with shades of blue, green and yellow. As with all my Coloured Pencil artworks, it’s going to take quite some time to the finish. So until then, stay tuned ! Would be happy to answer any queries !

Thrilled to get an email this morning announcing that ‘The Tiger’s Nest’ has been selected by the juror, Mark Ormond, to appear in Colored Pencil Society of America’s Explore This! 20 exhibition.
A total of 62 artists have been selected. One will, however, have to wait until February 1 for the entire exhibition to go live and also for the award winners to be revealed ! So fingers crossed 🤞 until then !
Thank you all for all the encouragement and for being with me all the way. From the Covid days in 2020 when I first started painting in Colored Pencils until now, it’s been quite a journey! Staying motivated over months is such a job, and events such as these spur one on to greater heights!

A happy moment in that this one is finally finished ! This was a practice piece which I had wanted to finish before the year’s end and it came out really well ! I am happy with the likenesses and the soft blends!
With this one out of the way, it is time to return back to coloured pencils! With the coming of the new year, I will soon be starting a fresh new piece in coloured pencils !Stay tuned ! Any choice of subjects you would love me to work on in my future pieces?
This was done with graphite pencils, and with just a hint of charcoal.
All feedback appreciated!
