Happy Navaratri!
Day 2: Maa Brahmacharini.
Maa Brahmacharini is often depicted as a young woman in white attire, symbolizing purity and simplicity; with rosary beads in her right hand, symbolizing her dedication to continuous prayer and meditation; and a lotus on her left hand symbolizing knowledge.
Her name comes from the Sanskrit words Brahma, meaning supreme consciousness or knowledge, and Charini, meaning one who practices or pursues. 
In a previous birth, Parvati was born as Sati, the daughter of King Daksha. After seeing her husband, Lord Shiva, humiliated by her family, she emulated herself. In her next life, she was born as the daughter of King Himavat and named Parvati. She undertook severe penance to win Lord Shiva's heart.
Worshipping Brahmacharini is believed to help devotees cultivate resilience, patience, and determination. Her blessings empower devotees to overcome obstacles and remain steadfast on the path of righteousness.

Happy Navaratri!

Day 1 (Pratipada): Maa Shailaputri, the daughter of the mountain (Shail means “Mountain”) and the first incarnation of Goddess Durga, marks the first day of Navratri. This Indian festival celebrates the victory of good over evil and the mysticism surrounding the divine feminine.

She is depicted with a lotus flower in one hand and a trident in the other, riding on her vehicle, the majestic bull, Nandi. According to the Upanishads, Goddess Shailaputri humbled the Devas, and they prayed to her, acknowledging that their power comes from her. Shailaputri is considered a manifestation of the power of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. She is also depicted as the goddess of the Muladhara Chakra, the root chakra from which one begins their journey towards spiritual awakening and discovering their life's purpose.

এই দেবীর দক্ষিণ হস্তে ত্রিশূল আর বাম হস্তে কমল আছে তাই দেবীর অপর নাম শুল ধরিনি। ইনি পূর্ব জন্মে দক্ষ নন্দিনী সতী দেবী ছিলেন । দক্ষের অমতে তিনি শিব কেই বিবাহ করেন । প্রতিশোধে দক্ষ এক শিব হীন যজ্ঞের আয়োজন করেন । বিনা নিমন্ত্রণে সতী দেবী পিত্রালয়ে গিয়ে অনেক অপমানিত হলেন ও সতী রূপে আবির্ভূত মহামায়া দেহত্যাগ করলেন । এরপর ভগবান শিব দক্ষ যজ্ঞ ধ্বংস করেন । এই দেবী মহামায়া পর জন্মে হিমালয় কন্যা পার্বতী রূপে জন্ম নেন । শৈলরাজ হিমালয়ের কন্যা হবার জন্য দেবীর এক নাম শৈলপুত্রী । এবং পরজন্মে তিনি দেবাদিদেব শিবকেই পতি রূপে বরন করলেন । নবরাত্রির প্রথম দিনে মা শৈলপুত্রীর আরাধনা করা হয় । মা শৈলপুত্রীর বাহন বৃষ।

Honestly, I had been so skeptical to post this piece. This was part of my DIY wall hanging project that I started working on, with a target to decorate the backdrop of the small puja mandap during our children's kalipuja, 2022. Yes, I learnt from my mistakes. I didn't take a continuous piece of cardboard (I couldn't souce it though), and I didn't use masking tape at the round edges to make it air-sealed.

"Pride is for everyone."🌈🌈
One for the pride month . . .
Posting it on the 28th of June, in observance of the Stonewall uprising in New York that the LGBTQIA+ activists commemorated in 1969 for the equal right to love and live.

Do you know that there are about 32 pride flags with different color stripes and hues, each signifying several iterations which have evolved over time?

Here's my take on a 'pride month mandala' trying to incorporate a Gilbert Baker pride flag color scheme i.e., pink (s*x), red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), turquoise (magic and art), Indigo (serenity), and violet (spirit).

This is probably my first ever try on colors on digital media, and I enjoyed it. What do you think of this one?
