A review of our 10th November programme written by none other than Bhabani Shankar

SWARAJA MUSIC CIRCLE presented an enjoyable evening concert at KALABHRIT MUSIC ACADEMY hall on 10th November 2023.
The session began with a vocal recital by PAPRI CHOWDHURY who sang Rag Madhuvanti and a Bhajan with commendable mastery. Papri Chowdhury also rendered a beautiful piece in Rag Hansdhwani.
Thereafter vocalists SUJATA NANDI MITRA , SUBHRA BHATTACHARYYA , PHULLARA MUKHERJEE and ATREYEE MAJUMDER presented ragas Durga, Puriya Kalyan, Kausikdhwani and Nand respectively. Their melodious voices greatly impressed the audience.
ATREYEE rendered two legendary compositions Dhunda Bana Sainya (vilambit) and Ajahuna Aaye Shyam (drut) which created a nostalgic feeling and reminded us of the musical stars (Ustad Amir Khan, Pandit Vijay Kitchlu etc.) of yesteryears. They all concluded their recitals with colourful Bhajans and Thumris. Harmonium accompanist PRADIP PALIT performed miracles with his dexterous fingers. ARUMOY DEY and SANJAYRANJAN PAL provided excellent support on the Tabla.
The grand finale of this musical event was a Sarod recital by PT. BUDDHADEB PAL, a renowned elderly artiste from Andul (Howrah). He captivated the audience with his delectable recital in Rag Jhinjhoti and followed it up with two traditional pieces in Zilla Kafi. He was accompanied by SANJAYRANJAN PAL on the Tabla.
