AITA for not doing anything for my daughter‘s graduation at all?

AITA for refusing to host my daughter’s graduation party if her father is there?

My daughter (18F) is graduating this year, and I (36F) have been planning a large graduation party for her.

For background: when I was 18, I was pregnant with her and living with her father. While six months pregnant, I found him cheating and left immediately, moving 2000 miles back home. I raised her with my parents’ help while finishing college. Her father was mostly absent early on but later moved to our state and became more involved.

I supported their relationship and even forgave over $15,000 in back child support because I wanted them to have a good bond. Shortly after, during a very difficult time in my life, he sued for full custody and took her without warning. After two years and significant legal expenses, I agreed to 50/50 custody because that’s what my daughter said she wanted.

Over time, she began staying with him more. At 16, after I set rules (like consequences for not keeping up with responsibilities), she left my home and claimed she felt “unsafe,” which I strongly disagree with. Since living with her father, she has had very few boundaries.

Recently, she confided in me about a major argument with her dad and asked me not to tell him. I didn’t. The next day, she accused me of telling him anyway because he somehow knew details. I denied it and showed proof that I hadn’t contacted him, but she didn’t believe me.

When I tried to call him and his girlfriend to clear things up, both calls went straight to voicemail. Given our history, I feel like this may be another attempt to create conflict between me and my daughter.

Now she says she won’t have a graduation party unless her father is included. I told her I’m not comfortable hosting and paying for a large event with him present given our past and the current situation. I suggested separate celebrations, but she refused and told me to “get over it.”

I feel hurt and disrespected, but also heartbroken at the idea of not celebrating her milestone.

AITA for not letting my family live in my empty house?

I (38m) come from a family that has always struggled to get by. My mother raised 4 sons as a single mother and would go to the ends of the earth for us. She has always rented as has most of my immediate and extended family.

I broke the mold when I got my dream house built in 2016. It's quite a large home as (at the time) I was planning on eventually starting a family and having kids.

Fast forward to today, I ended up focusing more on my career and have been in no rush to start a family, so besides romantic partners and the occasional temporary room mate, I've lived in my house alone. I'm set to move overseas later this year and it will be for the foreseeable future. I offered to let my mother live in my house while I'm away (and have offered her many times prior to this) but she has again said no, she likes where she lives and has no plans to move (she is in a housing commission/public housing house so the rent is very low and the lease is essentially indefinite).

Both my older and next younger brother (there are 4 of us and I'm the 2nd oldest) found out about my offer to my mother and started throwing out not so subtle hints about letting either of them move in. It all came to a head over Easter when they both asked outright if either of them/their families can stay at my house and I told them in no uncertain terms, they aren't allowed in my home while I'm away.

This lead both of them to blow up at me, calling me selfish, saying I never needed a house that big anyway and now I won't even be living in it while they both have partners/kids and their current house/apartment aren't big enough for their families but with the housing crunch, they can't afford any bigger.

I called them out on this, they both earn decent money but just can't budget. They spend money like it's going to rot. They both go on regular (and quite pricey) holidays, always have the latest gadgets and one just bought a 70k+ ute.

I ended up leaving the Easter festivities early when they wouldn't drop the subject and started using my nieces and nephews as props to guilt me into letting either of them move in.

My family has been blowing up my phone ever since, even my mother has tried to find a way to get me to let them move in. I don't trust them in my home without me, but am I just selfish for leaving a large home empty for so long when they have growing families?

AITAH For buying my stepdaughter, a traditional Navajo dress for graduation?
My stepdaughter (17), I’ll call her L, is graduating high school with honors. She’s half Navajo from her mom and half Guatemalan from my husband. She had her heart set on wearing a traditional Navajo dress for graduation.

Originally, she had arranged to borrow one from her aunt on her mom’s side. One night at dinner, I asked if she had picked up the dress yet, and she looked really defeated and said she couldn’t anymore because of family drama.

I asked if we could just buy her one instead. She told me they’re expensive, around $500–600. I had already planned to get her a Tiffany’s necklace for graduation, so I told her we could skip that and use the money for the dress instead. She said she would much rather have the dress.

The next day, she found one she loved online. It was about a 3-hour drive away, so I suggested we make a day of it so she could try it on and look at other options too. She was really excited. I told her to pick a day where she got out of school early, I wasn’t working, and her mom could come too. I made it clear I wanted her involved.

Fast forward to the day of the trip, I asked if her mom was coming and L said no. I still had my husband go pick her up. When he got there, her mom was upset and said buying the dress is something she should be doing, and that I had no right to take that moment.

My husband told her that if she wanted to buy the dress, she could. That turned into a screaming match between them. L called me crying. I calmed her down and told her we’d figure it out later. She ended up upset with both of them for arguing in front of her.

Th next day, I had L call her mom so I could talk to her directly. I put it on speaker so L could hear everything. I explained that I absolutely wanted her involved, and the only reason I offered to pay was because I knew the cost might be difficult for her right now. She got defensive at first, but when I said she could buy it instead if she wanted, she kind of backtracked.

We eventually came to an agreement. We would all go together, she could buy the moccasins and jewelry, and I would buy the dress.

We went, everything stayed calm, and L got her dress.

Her mom still thinks I overstepped and inserted myself into something that should have been her moment. But honestly, I just wanted L to have what she wanted for graduation and feel special.

My girlfriend is beyond stupid and I feel like I might have to end the relationship
Ok.

When I first met my girlfriend I noticed she sometimes made misjudgements but I didn’t think much of it. Now that we been together 2 years I realize how stupid she is. That might sound harsh but that’s the only word I can think of. We will go downtown to some place she wants to go and she will walk down a street and be like “oh wait wrong way” then walk down another street and be like “oh no wrong way” then walk down another street and be like “oops wrong way again”. It’s horrible, she has no sense of direction and I feel so stupid following her around.

She also talks in circles which makes me so angry. Like for an example yesterday she asked me, “do you want a burrito for dinner?” Then I replied we don’t have the ingredients for a burrito so I’m going to eat the food we have in the house. She then asks, “oh so you don’t want a burrito?” So I thought maybe she bought ingredients for a burrito so I said sure I’ll have a burrito. She then says, “ok but we don’t have the ingredients for a burrito”. Like YES I KNOW THAT.

Her stupidity makes me treat her worse which I hate because I don’t want to be rude to people but sometimes the way she talks and acts just infuriates me. I also feel more slow and held down when I’m with her. Like when she makes a dumb decision I’m usually around her so I have to help her correct her mistake.

Anytime I do something alone I feel a huge wave of happiness go through my body because I don’t feel held back from her behaviour. Overall she’s a good person but I honestly don’t think I can continue a relationship with her. Her misjudgments cause me so much financial loss and general stress.give me one best realastic thumbnail image prompt 4:5 with overly add text only 3 to 4 words max
