World Photography Day is celebrated annually on August 19th to honour the art, craft, science, and history of photography. This special day serves as an opportunity for photographers, both amateur and professional, to showcase their work, share stories through images, and inspire others to pick up a camera and capture the world around them.

The origins of World Photography Day trace back to 1839, when the French government acquired the patent for the daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre, and declared it free for public use. Since then, photography has evolved dramatically, from black-and-white film to the vibrant digital age, offering endless possibilities for creativity.

Today, photographers from all over the world come together, share their best shots, and engage in discussions emphasising the importance of visual storytelling. Photography goes beyond just capturing moments; it connects people across cultures, evokes emotions, and preserves history.
