In a bid to further enhance rail facilities in the Northeast and Assam, Rs 10,369 crore have been allocated in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 60 stations in the Northeast are being redeveloped with world-class amenities.
Among the selected railway station in Assam, Tangla Railway Station will receive a significant facelift at a cost of Rs 14.14 crores.
The revamping of the station will provide modern state-of-the-art amenities to railway users in the nearby areas.
Tangla Railway Station is an important station in Udalguri district, located between the Rangiya – Rangapara section under the Rangiya division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
The existing station building will be extended with an improved facade, offering facilities such as retiring rooms and a waiting room with the latest amenities for passenger convenience.
The station will also be equipped with divyangjan-friendly ramps and toilet facilities, two lifts, and a 5-metre-wide foot overbridge.
A new toilet block will be constructed separately for male and female passengers.
Moreover, improved parking facilities and beautification of the circulating area are planned.
All platforms will be provided with shelters and resurfaced with marble stone and tiles for ease of movement for passengers.
The entry and exit paths will be developed to offer improved accessibility for passengers.
Tenders have been awarded for all the above works.
The foundation work for the new station building has already started.
Work for other passenger amenities, such as the installation of Coach Guidance Board, Train Information Display System, Extension of Platforms, provision of easy access water booths for Divyangjan, etc, are also in progress.
The upgradation of Tangla station is expected to create new employment and business opportunities, ease travel, and significantly boost tourism for passengers from the city and nearby ar
