The Inspiration: The inspiration for this piece came from the feeling of peaceful solitude one finds under a vast, starry sky. The full moon represents hope, reflection, and quiet companionship. The girl sitting alone is not necessarily lonely, but rather lost in thought, soaking in the quiet magnificence of the night. It's a tribute to those moments of introspection we all need.
The Process & Techniques Used: This artwork was created entirely with graphite pencils on drawing paper. I aimed for a soft, dreamy, and slightly blurred effect to capture the ambiance of a starry night.
Moon: The moon was the first element drawn, using circular blending techniques and a kneaded eraser to lift the graphite and create the brilliant, textured surface.
Background Sky: I used a generous amount of soft graphite and a blending stump (or tortillon) to create the smooth, dark gradient of the night sky. The stars were added using an eraser tip and occasionally white gel pen for extra sparkle, creating a stunning contrast against the dark background.
The Subject: The figure of the girl and the bench were rendered with slightly harder pencils (HB and 2B) to give them more structure and definition against the soft background. Notice the deep shadows under the bench, adding depth and grounding the figure in the scene.
