NERPALA

Nerpala, a performance piece by Dileep Chilanka, explores the silent lives of traditional Kerala’s wooden plank frameworks, lost to modernization. Through movement and rhythm, Chilanka commemorates labour, local practices, and nature, blending sequence, structure, and architecture.

Selected Artists Announcement
Dileep Chilanka’s NERPALA Upcoming Shows.

We are happy to share the names of the artists selected for Nerpala’s next shows.

Last month, we opened an invitation for artists to join this new creative journey. We received many applications, and we truly appreciate the time and effort everyone put into sharing their work with us.

After careful consideration, three artists have been selected to collaborate in this project.

March Dance 2024, in its sixth edition has been a partnership between Basement 21 collective and the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai. This year it is supported by the India Foundation for the Arts Bangalore and the Alliance Française of Madras. We are also grateful to the Prakriti Foundation, Anandam Dance Theatre, Dance Nucleus, National Arts Council (NAC) Singapore and Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance (BLTZ) for having our back for specific shows and programs.

This year we are super excited to have: Ainesh Madan (Karnataka), Dileep Chilanka (Kerala), Maya Krishna Rao (Bangalore), Shanti Pillai (New York), Moritz Ostruchnjak (Germany), Aseng Borang (Arunachal Pradesh), Pat Toh Ling (Singapore), Travis Knights (Canada) and Brandy Leary (Canada) as artists in residence, artists in conversation, workshop conductors, choreographers and performers.
