About S**c Macay

S**C MACAY stands for Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth. This is a voluntary organization which runs all over the India and some locations across the seas to promote the cause of Indian Culture and Indian Classical Music in particular. This organization now celebrating its 37th year is outcome of the efforts of Dr. Kiran Seth, who is a Professor in the department of Mechanical engineering at IIT Delhi. From 1972-76 it ran in the name of "India Club of Columbia University" at the Columbia University. In 1979, a two-day programme involving the performance of Ustad Bismillah Khan, Dagar Bandhu, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez was organized by MEFYS (Mechanical Engineering Final Year Students) at IIT Delhi. It was at this programme that the name S**C MACAY came into being. Since then this student movement has involved some big names of Indian Classical music like Ustad Bismillah Khan Pt. Birju Maharaj, Vidhushi Sonal Mansingh, Pandit Jasraj, The Dagar Brothers, Dr. T.N. Krishnan, Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan , Ustad Asad Ali Khan, etc. This organization now runs over 200 places all over India and 20 places abroad conducting more than 1500 events annually. There are performances at various schools and colleges aimed at revealing the richness of Indian Classical arts to the young minds of India . The best thing about these performances is that they are given by some of the greatest artists in their area thus leaving a big impact on the audience. And these are not restricted to dance and music only but other facets of our heritage like folk, yoga and meditation, crafts, talks by inspired writers, painters, philosophers, social activists and environmentalists, walks to monuments with historians, theatre, film classics and even holistic food.
