🕹️ How Gaming Cafés Are Shaping the Future of Esports in Smaller Cities:

Esports is no longer limited to metro cities like Bengaluru or Delhi. In recent years, the competitive gaming scene has made its way into smaller cities across India — and gaming cafés are leading this transformation.
In places where high-end gaming setups and stable internet are still out of reach for many, gaming cafés provide an essential infrastructure. They offer not just access to quality equipment, but also a space where gamers can connect, practice, and grow. These cafés act as breeding grounds for grassroots talent, offering a sense of community often missing in home setups.

A great example is Hive – The Gaming Arena, Jammu’s first gaming café. Hive didn’t just open doors for gaming — it opened doors for opportunity. It brought players together, enabled team formations, and hosted tournaments, sparking a new energy in Jammu’s esports scene.

By hosting events, scrims, and mentoring newer players, gaming cafés help bridge the gap between casual gaming and professional esports. They also create opportunities for local players to get noticed by bigger organizations and enter national-level competitions.

A growing trend is the collaboration between cafés and esports orgs — a win-win where cafés see more engagement and orgs find promising talent and venues for practice.

Of course, running a gaming café in a smaller city isn’t easy. Challenges like maintenance costs, home-gaming competition, and low footfall can be tough. But cafés that innovate with content zones, coaching sessions, and brand partnerships are finding ways to thrive.

As digital awareness grows, gaming cafés in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities have the potential to become professional esports hubs. With the right support from brands, investors, and even government initiatives, they can unlock a new wave of competitive gaming in India.

In small cities like Jammu, cafés like Hive are proving that all it takes is a spark to ignite a scene. It’s time we recognize and invest in the grassroots pillars of Indian esports.

The State of Indian eSports in 2025: A Scene Full of Talent, Stuck in Transition

The Indian eSports scene in 2025 is in a strange place — full of potential but struggling with structure. With games like BGMI making a strong return and Valorant maintaining a solid core audience, one would assume that the ecosystem is thriving. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll see that the foundation still needs work.

🎮 Talent Is Not the Problem:

India has no shortage of raw skill. From tier-1 streamers to unknown grinders playing 12-hour scrims daily, the talent pool is deep. The hunger is real — and it’s spread across mobile and PC titles. But talent alone doesn’t make an industry.

🏢 Lack of Structure and Stability:

-Inconsistent tournament circuits
-Scattered org support
-Frequent team disbandments
-Limited sponsor trust

These issues continue to hurt long-term growth. While a few major organizations are surviving through content creation and brand deals, most tier-2 and tier-3 teams are running on fumes or folding completely.

🔁 Overdependence on BGMI:

BGMI's return brought hope — and chaos. The game continues to dominate the Indian scene, but its legal uncertainty and lack of consistent official support make it a risky anchor. Meanwhile, other games like Valorant and CS2 are rising, but infrastructure and funding lag behind.

💡 What Indian eSports Needs:

-Stable tournament ecosystems backed by brands and publishers
-Player and org contracts that are professional and enforceable
-More investment in Tier-2 & Tier-3 teams, not just the top dogs
-Localized content that grows audiences beyond metros

India is on the edge of becoming a true global eSports hub. But until the backend catches up with the front-end hype, it’ll continue to be a scene with more potential than results.

"The next 2–3 years will decide whether Indian eSports builds a system — or burns out chasing short-term clout."

🎮 Esports as an Elective Subject in Schools/Colleges?

I've been working on a detailed course structure that could bring esports into mainstream academics — not just as gameplay, but as a career ecosystem.

📘 Here's what the course includes:

>Competitive structures (VCT, DPC, etc.)
>Player development and health
>Content creation and streaming
>Esports management and entrepreneurship
>Marketing, legal, and future trends

📚 Designed for a 15-week semester with 2–3 hours/week. Includes final capstone projects like:

>Hosting mini tournaments
>Building a streaming brand
>Drafting a café/bootcamp business model

🙌 I believe it's time we stop viewing esports only as entertainment — it's an industry, a career path, and a cultural movement.

Esports isn't just a hobby anymore. It's becoming a serious career path for today’s youth.

You may think it’s “just gaming,” but here’s what’s really happening behind the screens:

1. 🧠 Skill Development: From communication and leadership to quick decision-making and time management - esports builds real, transferable skills.

2. 💼 Career Opportunities: Players, managers, editors, analysts, casters, social media leads, event organizers - there’s a full ecosystem behind every team.

3. 🔥 Passion Meets Profession: Young people are no longer afraid to follow what they love - and esports offers a chance to turn that passion into purpose.

4. 🌍 A Global Industry: The global esports market is worth billions. Tournaments are watched by millions. Sponsorships are growing. This isn’t a phase - it’s an industry.

5. 🤝 Community & Belonging: Esports gives people a space to belong, compete, grow, and build together - regardless of geography or background.

This is why more youth are choosing esports - not for just dopamine or fun, but for growth, identity, and opportunity.

It’s time we recognize esports as more than entertainment.
It’s becoming a legitimate path - with real work, real rewards, and real stories.

🔥 A Fresh Buzz in Jammu's Gaming Scene!

⭐ Today, I visited Hive - The Gaming Arena, a newly launched gaming cafe right here in Jammu on its opening day.

✨ Tried out Valorant for an hour and I've got to say, the setup, ambiance, and energy were spot on. It's amazing to finally see spaces like this popping up in our city, giving a proper platform for gamers and esports enthusiasts.

👏 Great start by the team behind Hive - Jammu's gaming community just got a serious boost!

🎮 Esports isn't just about playing games - it's an entire industry with roles most people have never heard of.

⭐ Behind every match, every highlight, and every win, there’s a team of people making it all happen.

📃 Here are 8 roles in esports that many outside the scene don’t know about:

1. Team Manager: Handles scrims, schedules, coordination, and keeps the team running smoothly.

2. Coach/Analyst: Reviews gameplay, develops strategies, and works on team weaknesses.

3. In-Game Leader (IGL): Makes real-time decisions during matches and keeps the team calm and tactical.

4. Content Creator/Editor: Tells the story of the team through highlights, vlogs, memes, and more.

5. Tournament Organizer (TO): Runs competitions from behind the scenes - brackets, rules, ex*****on.

6. Esports Caster/Host: Brings matches to life for viewers with commentary and energy.

7. Social Media Manager: Grows the brand, builds community, and keeps fans engaged.

8. Brand/Partnership Manager: Secures sponsorships, partnerships, and business opportunities.

🔥 Esports is more than a game. It’s a growing professional ecosystem.

🎮 What is a “Scrim” in Esports?
A lot of people outside the gaming world ask me this - and it’s a great question.

In esports, we often say “we're scrimming tonight” or “set up a scrim with that team.”

🤔 But what does that actually mean?

Scrim is simply gamer slang for “scrimmage” - a practice match between two teams.

No prize pool. No crowd. No pressure from rankings.

Just raw gameplay to improve strategy, teamwork, and communication.

⚽ Think of it as a friendly match in football - still competitive, but meant for learning.

⭐ Teams often play daily scrims to refine tactics, review performance, and build synergy before tournaments. In games like BGMI or Valorant, scrims are a core part of prep.

🙌 To the outside world, it may just look like gaming. To us, it’s practice, discipline, and growth.
