Parallel World by GANGA SINGH
“Imagination is the most enjoyable faculty man has. It is God’s gift to man. I believe this imagination provokes him to create and make life worthwhile. Most people ignore their imaginative thoughts. They are too busy in meeting their day to day requirements. I watch my thoughts carefully. They are continuous, without any gap.” Says Ganga Singh who uses forms associated with our day to day life to tell stories through his paintings. ‘I give animal like faces to human beings to show their animal instinct, which dominates their behaviour in today`s world.’
Nature offers us pictorial and aesthetic beauty as images and ideas. Artist Ganga Singh adds to it - elements of abstraction, distortion and simplification to create an alternative world and life where the physical and mystical co-inhabit. ‘My paintings are based on my response to nature. They are modern designs with a strong primitive and tribal influence. A selection of his art is Always on view at Juneja Art Gallery.

BARRY WILSON
For British art lovers Barry Wilson is already known for a while as he is exhibiting since 1997 and had both solo and group exhibitions in some of the best London art galleries like Tate Modern, Medici Gallery and Barbican. In last few years Wilson’s career has blossomed outside UK as well, when in 2011 he had two exhibitions in Dubai & UAE.
Architecture is Wilson’s main inspiration, especially Art Nouveau and Art Deco style buildings that were once grand but nowadays have become derelict over time. Barry mainly paints various city scenes with landscapes that have somehow caught his eye and attention; his art is inspired by the crumbling architecture, urban decay and graffiti that punctuate the seaside towns and cities of the Southern England. Every painting conveys a different mood. A tranquil pier in a small seaside British town is bathed in the soft glow of dawn (“Pier”). Buskers playing music under the bridge next to the London’s Eye and you can literally feel the vibes in the air.
Wilson also excels in figurative paintings that capture people in various moods. The people are secondary in almost every Wilson’s painting as they always appears as dark silhouettes that are merely a part of the scene and only help to set up the right mood. (“Buenos Aires Bar”, ”Southbank buskers”).

PN CHOYAL - Self Portrait One of the Legends of the Contemporary Art world, and a close contemporary of the early Indian Modernists of the1940’s, P.N. Choyal was against any wholesale borrowing from his illustrious forerunners. Unlike the first generation Modernists, he never rejected the essentially lyrical content in the romantic version of the past, nor did he break down the female figure in angry haste and bitterness. He had travelled the length and breadth of the country and studied art at the Slade School of Art , London.
PN Choyal had no intension to flatter humans. Rather he rests out of the human frame, or out of any organic form, images of power and movement, and as of the feel of reality behind appearances.

Yunus Khimani - an indisposition

Yunus Khimani’s preoccupation with “fear”, is neither its physicality, nor its psychotic implications or manifestations. Having personally known the artist, educator, conceptualizer and motivator for over 50 years, I feel that these various manifestations are truly his source of energy and inspiration, with a sense of synergizing several aspects of creative inter-disciplines.
The multiplicity of his creative being, driven by academic, design oriented and educational intermingling, motivated his endeavors to envisage a futuristic vision. Perhaps, that is what frightens him today. “We work for a better tomorrow”. In his words, it doesn’t seem so, and it truly frightens him. This “fear” of his, forms the real and true basis of his creative energy, which he achieves by synergizing and revalidating tradition along with some of those forms that could lose their vitality and relevance with time.
His fears revolve around the chaos in the world around us, the impact and pe*******on of e-commerce, our overwhelming reliance on technology.
Yunus’s creative revelations, to me, are symbols of anxiety symbolically expressed both in content & form, drawing our attention to the blind and deaf discourses in our everyday existence.
