About Jal Mahal:
The Jal Mahal was built by Raja Man in the 18th century in the middle of Mansagar Lake in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is surrounded by the Nahargarh hills, and the lake eco-system is home to a variety of migratory and resident birds, fish and other wildlife.
In recent years the ecological system of the lake and its vicinity area has suffered drastically due to silting, encroachments and sewage thus reducing the surface area of the lake. The ground water around the lake is highly contaminated creating serious health hazards. The recent influx of contaminated water has killed all fish. A nearby stepwell which was part of the traditional water management system in the desert state is also intact but unused.
