CINEMATIC STORYTELLING
A great film has two requirements: One is to have a great story that is created by the screenwriter and the other is to render the story cinematically that is done by the film’s director.
Cinematic Storytelling is the art of using the tools of cinema such as camera placement, movement, lighting, sound, transitions, costumes, props, time, editing etc. to convey the story cinematically.
The film director’s job consists of two parts. The first part is to know what the audience should feel and the second part is to creatively use the techniques of cinematic storytelling to get them there. Unlike a master craftsman who only knows how to create a specific shot, a cinematic film director knows why and will not consider a shot unless it advances plot or character.
Approximately 100 techniques of cinematic storytelling will be discussed at the workshop by examining the works of master directors and using memorable moments in film history.
