Hyderabad City Roads After Rain: A Call for Responsible Journalism and Constructive Action.
Every year, when the skies open up and monsoon rains wash over Hyderabad Meri Jaan, the city’s roads tell familiar stories: puddles turning into ponds, potholes revealing old wounds, and traffic moving at the pace of patience. While these challenges are visible and immediate, what’s more concerning today is the selective portrayal of these issues by some online media channels.A few digital voices seem to have taken a one-sided approach, targeting specific political leaders or MLAs. Their reports focus solely on the negatives, amplifying complaints while conveniently ignoring developmental works and genuine efforts made during the tenure. Such selective narratives don’t strengthen democracy, they distort it. Journalism is meant to inform, not inflame. It should hold power accountable while also recognizing progress and context. The present situation is not confined to the Old City alone. From Miyapur to Malkajgiri and from Gachibowli to Malakpet, rainfall impacts the entire city. Civic bodies are continuously working to address drainage issues and improve infrastructure, yet no system is perfect. Constructive criticism helps, but constant negativity only breeds distrust and confusion.Public representatives, engineers, and administrators have worked on multiple drainage revamp projects, road widening, and urban flood prevention measures. These deserve fair mention alongside the shortcomings. A balanced report that includes both problems and ongoing solutions would help citizens stay informed and engaged. To my friends in media, your storytelling holds immense power. Use that power to build awareness, not animosity. Highlight the flaws—but also guide the way toward possible solutions. Only then does journalism serve its true purpose. And to the people of Hyderabad Meri Jaan, please channel your frustrations and suggestions directly to your elected representatives. They are accountable to you. Avoid giving attention to those who thrive on sensationalism and cheap publicity. Your voice, directed to the right platform, can bring real change. The city may stumble each monsoon, but together, through dialogue, responsibility, and fair reporting, Hyderabad will always rise stronger.
