On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Kumari Ashmitha S, Kumari Sonakshi and Kumari Laksh*tha the students of Vrindavan School of Performing Arts performed a Bharatanatyam Recital on a keerthanai called Aadinai Kanna at Thumkunta, Hyderabad.

This keerthanai describes lord Krishna’s joyful dance at Vrindavan and the poet explains that lord Krishna’s dance is full of astonishment for his bhaktas. All the gopis were in search of lord Krishna but could not find him. Krishna himself comes to see them in the river side with the beautiful moon light falling on them.

The poet again talks about Krishna’s dance where he explains that when lord Krishna dances, everything in the nature dances along with him.

Director of Dance Mrs. Meera Sehadrinathan has performed Natesha Kauthuvam.

The Natesha Kauthuvam is a dance in praise of Lord Shiva, the third god in the Hindu Trinity. He is the god of destruction as well as the god of dance in his Nataraja form. This is a fast paced piece that has beautiful poses of Natesha (Shiva), the one who is worshiped by all the sages and demons; and who dances with a drum in one hand.

In a Kauthuvam, chollukattus (rhythmic syllables) are intertwined with the lyrics of the song. Thus it has both nritta (footwork) and abhinaya (expressions) components in its choreography. Natesha Kauthuvam is set to Raagam Hamsadhwani, Taalam adi composed by Tanjavur Quartette dance Choreographed by Shri K. P. Rakesh.
