Weekly market(হাট)
From ancient times, weekly markets—known in Bengali as “hat”—have been the heartbeat of local life. Historians trace the idea of periodic rural markets back over four thousand years to trading spaces in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley Civilization, where farmers and artisans gathered on fixed days to exchange goods. Even today, a village hat is more than a marketplace: it is a social hub where livelihoods grow, news spreads, cultures meet, and communities sustain their everyday economy.
