Subho Bijoya and Happy Dussera to all of you!

On the 10th day(Dashami) of Durga Puja, after worship rituals, the idols are literally fed with sweets. It's called 'boron' in Bengali. So, all the white and yellow stuff you see on the face of the idols are basically 'Sondesh'(bengali dessert).

During this eve of Dussera, I wanted to share something with you all:
A day before, a kid asked me: 'Why there is a garland around the neck of Mahishashura? Isn't he a demon?'

I said: 'Because we worship him too.'

Kid: 'But why? He is evil, right?'

I said: 'We will even feed him your favorite sondesh in Dashami, along with everyone else! 😃' ..

Well, let's see why:
Mahishashura was known for his knowledge. He was well-read. He was a great ruler. He possessed great knowledge on politics and shastras(science). Mysore(a city in Karnataka, India) was probably named after him. In short, he achieved greatness in several areas.

Knowledge and greatness are worshiped. Always.
This Dussera, Old Temples wish you all knowledge and wisdom!

Sasivekalu Ganesha: An 8ft tall monolithic statue of Ganesha in Hampi, Karnataka from 1500AD.

If you notice, there is a snake around Ganesha's belly.
Why?
Well there is a fun story behind it. Ganesha is so fond of great food and of course, eating those. One day he ate so much, his stomach was about to burst.
Hence, he tied a snake around his belly to prevent it from bursting! - Cool move! Isn't it?

Down memory lane, as a school going kid, Independence Day meant waking up early and going to school to sing our National Anthem, and hoisting the flag up high.

Ofcourse, no classes that day. We used to get a 'Saffron-color-Laddoo' after the Flag hoisting ceremony. And, we used to play in the school ground till we felt super hungry. Boy, that was something...that was our freedom.

Happy Independence Day to all of you!
