A rare representation of the demon king, Raavan

This unconventional Kangra miniature painting depicts the mighty King of Lanka as a deity: very rare in Indian art.

Raavan is often described as a fearsome demon, blessed by the God of Creation, Brahma to remain invisible in battle against all Gods, Asuras, sages, birds, reptiles, and other creatures. He is of course, ultimately defeated by the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Ram, the prince of Ayodhya.

Swipe right to take a closer look at the work.

Collection from the National Museum, New Delhi

Bridge Bharat wishes you all a happy Dussehra!

Age has no barriers, and this revolutionary artist proves just that.

This trailblazer was born into the aristocratic Tagore family. With no academic training in art, she was a self-taught artist that took inspiration from her brothers - Abindranath, Gaganendranath, and Samrendranath.

One would think coming from a prestigious family, she would be encouraged to pursue arts from a young age, but shockingly she started painting in her thirties.

She observed her brother's painting styles & techniques to make one of her own. With her simplistic & clean artwork void of design yet full of vigour, she won several hearts with her artistic spirit.

Her paintings are now hung in international museums that pay a tribute to her individualistic style of washed paintings that depicted the Indian women society & her private life in a different light.

She is Suanyani Devi.

The Gond tribe is one of the largest tribes in India, who invented Gond art. The Gond tribe is predominately from Madhya Pradesh but can also be found in the pockets of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chattisgarh.

The artwork was painted on caves and walls from the Mesolithic times, which draws inspiration from its surroundings like mother nature. That's why you will spot gorgeous Gond artworks consisting of birds, leaves, flowers, trees, animals, etc.

Paintings have the power to leave you in a daze, it's like they transport you to another dimension.

Looking at Mir Sayyid Ali's paintings is like time-traveling, they take you back to the Mughal Era with a single glance. But before you and me, the person who discovered the extraordinary talent of Mir was Humayun.

During Humayun's exile in Iran, he came upon Mir's impeccable Persian miniature paintings that had him fall in love at first sight. Mesmerized by Mir's artwork, Humayun said to the Shah of Iran,

"If that sultan of the universe gives me Mir the painter, I shall send him from Hindustan one thousand tumans as a present."

This is equivalent to 30 kgs of gold. The splendors of the Persian court and the gorgeously illustrated manuscripts sparked a desire far greater than kingdoms and thrones.

That's how Mir Sayyid Ali came to Hindustan, and the inception of Mughal-style court painting happened.

Fascinating, isn't it? Can you imagine how deeply valued Mir was by Humayun to offer a present worth 30 kgs of gold....

Mahatma Gandhi famously known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ paved the way to freedom for India and conquered the hearts of many with his philosophy that rendered several speechless.

On this occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, where we celebrate the birth anniversary of this global peace icon, Bridge Bharat wants to share the symbolic paintings of modern Indian painter, Sayed Haider Raza.

Raza was deeply inspired by the Gandhian philosophy and has been a follower ever since he saw Gandhi for the first time at the age of 8. Moved by the concepts of truth and peace, S.H Raza towards the end of his life in 2013 designed a set of paintings as tribute to the legendary Mahatma and everything that he stood for in his lifetime.

These artwork are renowned as ‘Gandhi in Raza.’

A timeless masterpiece that will have you stuck in a loop. A painting of Akbar and Humayan in a treehouse was painted by one of the founding masters of Mughal Art, Abd al-Samad.

As the painting unfolds, the visually confusing artwork gradually comes together. The artist has distributed attention and labor evenly across the entire page. Cherishing, and lavishing care on the geometric design tiles, the bark of the trees, faces, and individuals.

On a closer look, you will spot Akbar showcasing his painting to Humayun on the balcony. If only we could see the painting, to observe it in much more detail. Yet, the painter has enamored the beauty of Akbar's painting perfectly.

Time crumples in this painting as the meeting of Humayun & Akbar should take place after the meeting to preserve the memory, but with this painting having a painting-within, it already forecasts the event-to-come in great detail. It's like a play on time.

Wouldn't you all love to see both of these paintings in real life?

The ancient manuscript painting that you see above is that of the invincible prince of Ayodhya, Rama, also known as an incarnation of God Vishnu.

This is the magical moment where Lord Rama breaks the divine bow of God Shiva and manifests his supernatural powers.

The magnificent Mughal Art was painted by a profound Mughal artist, from Akbar's established atelier. Interestingly this epic tale comes from the Ramayan of Hindu mythology.

Back in the day, Art played a huge role in bringing people of all kinds, races, religions, and castes together irrespective of their differences.
