ವಿಶ್ವದ ಅತಿ ಎತ್ತರದ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯಾದ ಗುಜರಾತ್‌ನ 'ಏಕತಾ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ' (Statue of Unity) ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ಮಹಾನ್ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿ, ಪದ್ಮಭೂಷಣ ರಾಮ್ ವಂಜಿ ಸುತಾರ್ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ 100ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಯೋಸಹಜ ಕಾಯಿಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವರು ನೋಯ್ಡಾದ ತಮ್ಮ ನಿವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಬುಧವಾರ ಮಧ್ಯರಾತ್ರಿ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದರು.

ಅವರ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಾಧನೆಗಳು:
ಏಕತಾ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ: ಗುಜರಾತ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ 182 ಮೀಟರ್ ಎತ್ತರದ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ವಲ್ಲಭಭಾಯಿ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಅವರ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಕರು.

ಕೆಂಪೇಗೌಡರ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ: ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿರುವ 'ಪ್ರಗತಿ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ'ಯ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರ ಪಾತ್ರ ದೊಡ್ಡದು.

ಸಂಸತ್ ಭವನದ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳು: ಸಂಸತ್ತಿನ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಧ್ಯಾನಸ್ಥ ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಛತ್ರಪತಿ ಶಿವಾಜಿ ಮಹಾರಾಜರ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳು ಇವರ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿವೆ.

ಗೌರವಗಳು: ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಇವರಿಗೆ 1999ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಹಾಗೂ 2016ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪದ್ಮಭೂಷಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಿದೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗಷ್ಟೇ ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಅತ್ಯುನ್ನತ 'ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಭೂಷಣ' ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೂ ಇವರು ಭಾಜನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಅವರ ನಿಧನದಿಂದ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕಲಾಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಒಂದು ಸುವರ್ಣ ಯುಗ ಅಂತ್ಯಗೊಂಡಂತಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ದುಃಖವನ್ನು ಭರಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ದೇವರು ನೀಡಲಿ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸೋಣ.
