✨ Hello Beautiful Souls! ✨

Welcome to Episode 10 of “Nritya Yoga” 💫

Today, I am practicing a Damdaar Tihai.
In Kathak, a Tihai is a rhythmic composition where a phrase (bol) is repeated three times and is carefully structured to end on the sam (the first beat of the rhythmic cycle).
A Damdaar Tihai includes a small pause or gap between each of the three repetitions.

For the past 10 sacred Saturdays, we have been on a beautiful journey together, exploring the connection between our inner self and the universal consciousness through Kathak Shuddha Nritya 🕊️✨

It has been a truly lovely experience practicing with all of you.
Keep practicing, keep shining.

With all my love ❤️

✨ Hello Beautiful Souls! ✨

Welcome to Episode 9 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I’m practicing a Permelu.
Parmelu in Kathak is a specialized technical composition (often a tukra or paran) that blends rhythmic Pakhawaj/Tabla bols with sound-mimicking words inspired by nature, such as birdsong, rain, or musical instruments. It represents a "mixture" (Melu). Parmelu compositions frequently use onomatopoeic sounds—like Dhrag, Dhang, Jhanj, Kuku—to create a "natural" soundscape alongside traditional rhythmic syllables.

✨ Hello Beautiful Souls! ✨

Welcome to Episode 7 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I’m sharing a glimpse of Ched-Chad G*t — a delicate expression of playful divine love. “Ched-Chad” means teasing or gentle flirting, and in Kathak it beautifully captures the enchanting romance of Krishna with Radha and the Gopis.
Through expressive abhinaya, this G*t Bhav brings to life their sweet love-play — a dance of longing, mischief, and devotion that symbolizes the soul’s union with the Divine.

✨ Hello everyone! ✨
Welcome to Episode 6 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I present a Sada Tukda. A Tukda is a short, energetic piece created with dance bols (syllables). It is generally briefer than a Toda, crafted to create a quick and impactful expression.

Over 10 Saturdays, I invite you to walk this journey with me—exploring the sacred bond between the self and the universal consciousness through Kathak Shuddha Nritya 🕊️✨

Love you all ❤️✨

✨ Hello everyone! ✨
Welcome to Episode 5 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I present a Pranami and Salaami, to understand the difference and similarities between the two, and also to celebrate the uniqueness and versatility of Kathak.

'PRANAMI' in Kathak is the opening bow, showing respect to God, the Guru, and the audience. In early times, dancers offered Pranaam in temples.
When Kathak entered Mughal courts, this greeting changed into the 'SALAAMI', a graceful, stylized bow suited to royal settings.

💭Can you guess the Tala? Comment down below.

✨ Hello everyone! ✨
Welcome to Episode 4 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I present Thaat — Thaat simply means “खड़े होने का अंदाज।”

In Kathak, Thaat is the calm and graceful beginning of the dance. The dancer stands in a poised position and moves the arms, shoulders, and body slowly and beautifully. These gentle movements show balance, elegance, and inner peace.

It is usually performed in a slow rhythm (vilambit laya) and helps set the mood and rhythm (like Teentaal) before faster and more complex dance steps begin. Thaat focuses on neat body lines and soft, controlled movements rather than speed.

✨ Hello everyone! ✨
Welcome to Episode 3 of “नृत्य योग” 💫

Today, I present G*t — In Kathak, a G*t is a graceful, stylised walk. It helps tell stories from everyday life or bring characters alive — all through rhythm, movement, and expression ✨
Often, it flows from spins (Palta) into expressive walks called G*t Nikas, speaking without words.🌿✨

💭 Can you guess the G*ts I performed today?

Love & light ❤️✨
