FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

In a continued effort to combat drug abuse, Nayabazar Police Station under Soreng District Police intercepted three individuals suspected of consuming and possessing prohibited substances within the Nayabazar area. The individuals were identified as:

1. Ujjwal Mukhia (35), resident of Jamuney, Darjeeling, West Bengal.
2. Nishan Chettri (21), resident of Guruduma, Darjeeling, West Bengal, and
3. Shanker Darjee (35), resident of Namchi, Sikkim.

During questioning, the individuals admitted to the consumption of prohibited substances. They were subsequently subjected to medical examination and screening at Community Health Centre, Soreng, using a Multiple Drug Testing Kit (MDTK), which confirmed the presence of contraband substances in their system.

In accordance with the provisions relating to rehabilitation and de-addiction of substance users, the individuals were processed for admission to recognised rehabilitation facilities. On the evening of 09.06.2026, Shanker Darjee was referred to Revive Haven Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Kitchidumra, Namchi, while Ujjwal Mukhia and Nishan Chettri were referred to Kripa Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Darjeeling, for counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Soreng District Police remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing drug abuse and appeals to all stakeholders to actively support efforts towards a “Nasha Mukta Soreng District”.

UPDATE | Missing Sikkim Family’s Tata Nexon Traced in Teesta Basin; Search to Resume Sunday

Gangtok/Siliguri, June 6: In a significant development, the Tata Nexon (SK 01 PC 9872) carrying the missing East Sikkim family has been traced in the Teesta river basin along NH-10. A joint search operation involving the SDRF, NDRF, West Bengal Police, Teesta River Rescue Team, and family members continued until Saturday evening and will resume on Sunday morning.

Earlier, rescuers recovered vehicle debris, including the battery and bumper, which helped investigators locate the vehicle. The family had been missing since Friday while travelling from Gangtok to Siliguri and were last reported to be near the Rambhi area.

Scooter Rider Dies after Collision with Bolero in Gyalshing, West Sikkim

A 58-year-old scooter rider lost his life following a road accident along the Arigoan–Gyalshing road on Wednesday morning (3/6/2026)

According to police reports, Damber Singh Limboo, (Teacher) a resident of Lower Langang, was travelling towards Sakyong for duty on his scooter (SK 02 P 6664) at around 9:00 AM on June 3 when he was involved in a collision with a Bolero vehicle near Langang.

The Bolero was reportedly being driven by S**** Chettri (19) of Darap, Gyalshing, who was on his way to Government College, Arigoan.

Following the impact, Damber Singh Limboo fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries. He was immediately taken to District Hospital Gyalshing by a passer-by taxi driver. Medical Officer Dr. Neelam S***a stated that the victim had suffered multiple grievous injuries.

Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to STNM Hospital, Gangtok, for advanced treatment. However, he reportedly succumbed to his injuries near Singtam while being transported to the hospital.

Police have seized both the accident-involved vehicles along with relevant documents, and details of the incident have been uploaded to the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD). The driver of the Bolero, S**** Chettri, was arrested and later released on surety bail.

A case has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the matter remains under investigation.

Massive Fire at Delhi Restaurant Claims Lives, Rescue Operations Continue

New Delhi, June 3: A massive fire that broke out at the Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, on Wednesday morning has claimed multiple lives and left several others injured. Initial reports had put the death toll at 10, but authorities later confirmed that the number of fatalities had risen significantly as rescue and recovery operations progressed.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, the blaze erupted around 8:50–9:00 AM, prompting the deployment of multiple firefighting units, including around 10 fire tenders. Firefighters launched an intensive operation to control the flames and evacuate those trapped inside the multi-storey building.
