FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ABUSE
In a continued effort to combat drug abuse, Nayabazar Police Station under Soreng District Police intercepted three individuals suspected of consuming and possessing prohibited substances within the Nayabazar area. The individuals were identified as:
1. Ujjwal Mukhia (35), resident of Jamuney, Darjeeling, West Bengal.
2. Nishan Chettri (21), resident of Guruduma, Darjeeling, West Bengal, and
3. Shanker Darjee (35), resident of Namchi, Sikkim.
During questioning, the individuals admitted to the consumption of prohibited substances. They were subsequently subjected to medical examination and screening at Community Health Centre, Soreng, using a Multiple Drug Testing Kit (MDTK), which confirmed the presence of contraband substances in their system.
In accordance with the provisions relating to rehabilitation and de-addiction of substance users, the individuals were processed for admission to recognised rehabilitation facilities. On the evening of 09.06.2026, Shanker Darjee was referred to Revive Haven Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Kitchidumra, Namchi, while Ujjwal Mukhia and Nishan Chettri were referred to Kripa Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, Darjeeling, for counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Soreng District Police remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing drug abuse and appeals to all stakeholders to actively support efforts towards a “Nasha Mukta Soreng District”.
