Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), today conducted the final inspection of the Indoor Cricket Academy at Rangpo ahead of its inauguration.
The Indoor Cricket Academy at Rangpo will be virtually inaugurated on April 28 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, from Gangtok. The Rangpo facility is one of six such academies being launched simultaneously across the Northeast, including centres in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
Developed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the facility is part of a broader initiative to strengthen cricketing infrastructure across the Northeast. The academy has been established within the premises of the Sikkim Cricket Ground and features modern training amenities, including indoor nets, a fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pool and supporting infrastructure aimed at enhancing player development.
During the inspection, Jay Shah was accompanied by Shri Rajeev Shukla, Vice President, BCCI; Shri Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, Honorary Joint Secretary, BCCI; Shri Tika S***a, President, Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), along with members of SICA, Interim CEO and other officials from BCCI.
Initiated in 2024, the project aims to provide year-round training facilities in the region, which experiences prolonged monsoon conditions that limit outdoor practice opportunities.
