About The Founder | Fayaz Ahmad Dar

Fayaz is an Ecopreneurship Coach, a Sustainable Development Consultant and a Speaker from Ganderbal Kashmir. He helps aspiring and struggling entrepreneurs, individuals and organizations develop their entrepreneurial capacity to thrive in challenging situations. Since 2010, he has been a consultant and trainer for several local and international NGOs and has trained over ten thousand people in participatory personal and community transformation in Kashmir. Fayaz founded Mool Sustainability Research and Training Center in 2009. He founded Sagg Eco Village in 2013. Fayaz has an MBA and an MA in Conflict Transformation and Sustainable Development. He is also trained in Personality Development, Human Resources Management, Commerce and Permaculture. For over 15 years, he worked in educational, organizational and developmental practice, administration and research in diverse cultural settings. He returned to Kashmir in 2010 to share his experience and learning with younger generations. He has also been an adventure sports enthusiast and his current interests include ecological entrepreneurship, human potential, Kashmir and travel. On Friday, SAGG Eco Village received Gold in the Sustainable Homestay category at the TOFT Wildlife & Nature Tourism Awards 2025 in New Delhi.

This matters — not because of the trophy, but because of where this work is rooted.

We built SAGG in Kashmir as a regenerative experiment when many said it wouldn’t work. That ecology-first, community-led, small-scale tourism had no future here. That “this place is different.” That doing things slowly, ethically, and locally was impractical.

We kept going anyway.
Over a decade, we chose soil over shortcuts, people over volume, culture over copy-paste models. We stayed small when expansion was expected. We stayed rooted when imitation was easier.

This award quietly affirms something important: regenerative work, done with integrity, travels further than scepticism.

For me, this is more than an accolade. It is a reminder that even in fragile geographies, when we root our work in ecology, culture, and community, new possibilities for healing and regeneration emerge.
