We wrap up our Navarasa series with the ultimate stillness of Shanta rasa, the rasa of tranquility and peace.
Presenting Maithreem Bhajata, the Sanskrit benediction composed by Jagadguru Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati (Kanchi Paramacharya), promoting world peace and kindness. It was famously sung by Vid. M. S. Subbulakshmi at the UN in 1966.

This piece perfectly encapsulates the Shanta rasa by urging humanity to abandon conflict, greed and aggression in favour of friendship, compassion and charity.

This is Srutilaya's humble prayer for world peace: let us choose empathy over ego and kindness over conflict. May there be harmony for all.

This month, the Navarasa Series explores Bibhatsa Rasa, the rasa of disgust and aversion.

Presenting an excerpt from Angayarkanni, the Navarasa Navaragamalika Varnam composed by Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman, set in Ragam Sucharitra and Adi Talam, rendered by Vid. Kruthi Bhat.
The piece portrays Sati at Daksha’s yagna, where the absence of Shiva and Daksha’s arrogance evoke a deep sense of disgust and humiliation, ultimately leading to her act of self-sacrifice.

The Navarasa Series continues this month with Adbhuta Rasa, the rasa of wonder, amazement and awe.

We present a flute and tabla performance of a piece in Raga Hamsadhwani, inspired by a rendition by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia.

With it's bright phrases and uplifting energy, Hamsadhwani beautifully evokes Adbhuta Rasa. As we celebrate Holi, the festival of colours, may this music reflect the same sense of joy, vibrance and wonder!
