What is Amrit?

Amrit means A-Mrityu, non-death, not dying.

Amrit is that quality of consciousness that is timeless, that does not die (or change) with time, with different external circumstances.

When you meditate on Waheguru, then you enter into a trance state where the concept of time does not exist in your consciousness.

Waheguru is known as Akal Purush - Timeless Man. When you exist in this trance of timelessness, when you flow through life in such a state, then you become Timeless Man. This timeless aspect of man is known as Amrit, and it can be tasted via meditation.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji sacrificed his entire family at the altar of safeguarding the rights of underprivileged and fought for the right of religious freedom besides taking up cudgels against injustice, tyranny and castiest differences. Guru Sahib visualized a society with equal rights for everyone and was a firm believer in the freedom of humanity thus enabled the downtrodden people to be the stake holders in power.
only Sikh history has the distinction of being replete with the examples of unparalleled sacrifices where the father, mother and innocent children were sacrificed to protect the religious freedom of the mankind. Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji had made a lot of sacrifices for upholding the rights of all mankind.

SARDAR HARI SINGH NALWA
During a hunt in 1804, a tiger attacked him and also killed his horse. His fellow hunters attempted to protect him but he refused their offers and killed the tiger by himself bare handedly by tearing the tiger apart from its mouth, thus earning the cognomen Baagh Maar (Tiger- killer) .

The Most Costliest Land was Purchased by Bhai Todar Mal Ji, For Sanskaar of Chote Sahibzaade and Mata Gujri at what is now Gurudwara Jyoti Saroop Sahib, which was done by placing Gold Coins in Vertical Position over the Required Space. A total of 7,800 gold coins were put in vertical position to achieve this.

ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਨ ਕੀਤੇ,
"ਬੁੱਢਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਖੋਲੋ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ, ਲੇਹੁ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਨੈ ਸਭ ਪੰਥ"
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਹਸਤੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਪੰਥ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਵਰਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਤਿਆਰ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਨੇ,
"ਬਾਣੀ ਬਾਣਾ ਪੰਖ ਪਛਾਣੋ, ਸਿੰਘ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਪੰਖੀ ਜਾਣੋ"
ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਣਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ। ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵੱਲ ਪਿੱਠ ਕਰ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਪੰਥ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸੋ ਇਹ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਹਸਤੀ ਲਈ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹੇ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਓਲ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ,
"ਤੁਮ ਜੁ ਕਹਾ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਇ
ਲਖੀਏ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਦਰਸ ਕਹਾਂ ਕਹੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਮਝਾਇ॥"
(ਕਿ ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੁਸਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ 'ਮੇਰੇ' ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨੇ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ)
'ਉਹਨਾਂ' ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ, ਜਿਮੇਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਈ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ,
"ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਚਾਹਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰੇ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਆਹਿ॥
ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸਨਾਨ ਤੀਨ ਪਰਦਛਣਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ॥"
"ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਿਮੇਂ ਕਰੀਏ" ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਥਰੂ ਭਰ ਪੁੱਿਛਆ।
"ਜੋ ਮਮ ਸਾਥ ਚਹੇ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਤ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਸਾਥ॥
ਜੋ ਮੁਝ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਕੀ ਚਾਇ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾਇ॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਜਾਣ ਇਨ ਮੇਂ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਮਾਨ॥"
(ਕਿ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਨੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਣੇ। ਮੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਤੁਸਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ)
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ 'ਸ਼ਬਦ' ਦੇ ਲੜ੍ਹ ਲਾਇਆ, ਪਰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ 'ਸ਼ਬਦ' ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਚੇਲਾ 'ਸੁਰਤਿ' ਹੈ। ਬਹੁਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਚੇਲਾ ਅਸਲ 'ਚ 'ਸੁਰਤਿ' ਹੈ।
