Rising tensions in West Asia have rattled global energy markets, with the Iran–Israel–U.S. confrontation raising fears of disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil flows.

In this context, the Dibrugarh University International Literature Festival hosted a session titled “The Energy Conundrum & India,” a forward-looking discussion on energy geopolitics that now feels strikingly relevant as tensions unfold in West Asia.

The relevance is clear for India, which imports nearly 90% of its crude oil, with about 55% coming from the Middle East—making stability in the region critical for the country’s energy security and economy.

The session was chaired by energy expert Narendra Taneja and featured Talmiz Ahmad, former Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Kingshuk Chatterjee, Professor of History at the University of Calcutta.
During the discussion, Taneja described energy as a key driver of economic growth and called it a “golden bridge” connecting India with the Middle East. Ahmad emphasised the link between energy access and national security, noting India’s continued dependence on fossil fuels, while Chatterjee highlighted India’s strong refining capacity and the importance of strategic autonomy in energy decisions.

In that context, the discussion stands out for its timing. By bringing together voices from diplomacy, policy and academia, the festival created space for a conversation that now sits at the heart of global headlines.

Four days of stories, voices and unforgettable conversations came to a graceful close at the 3rd Dibrugarh University International Literature Festival 2026.

The grand closing ceremony at Dibrugarh University was graced by Hon’ble Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Vice-Chancellor Jiten Hazarika, IAS officer B. Kalyan Chakraborty and celebrated authors including Ann Morgan, Sherif Bakr and Murzban Fali Shroff.

The official festival souvenir, Fabula Rasa, was ceremonially unveiled during the closing ceremony, marking a lasting tribute to the festival’s global voices, themes, and literary journeys.

During the ceremony, Murzban Fali Shroff reflected on the emotional and creative journey behind his book Muses over Mumbai, sharing how a story continues to evolve long after it is printed—through readers, conversations and lived experiences.

With 150+ authors, 60+ sessions, and voices from 25+ nations, this year’s theme “Writings from the Middle East and North Africa” built bridges across cultures and continents.

As the curtains fall, the stories don’t end—they travel with us.

At Indira Miri Hall, The Body in the Mind wasn’t just a discussion—it felt like sitting inside a shared pulse. In conversation with David Clémenceau, voices like Atima Mankotia, Selim-a Atallah Chettaoui and Uxue Alberdi gently unfolded the idea of the body as a muse—not something abstract, but something lived. Scars, breath, memory, longing. How everything we carry quietly shapes the stories we dare to tell.
