🌞🌿 Balcony Plants in 40–45°C? Read This Before It’s Too Late
Extreme heat doesn’t kill plants instantly…
It slowly stresses them — and we often realize it too late.
Here’s what actually helps 👇
⸻
🌞 Light Management
Morning sun is your friend, afternoon sun is not.
If your plants are facing harsh 12–4 PM sunlight, shift them slightly or give shade.
Even 1–2 feet change can save leaves from burning. Keep some of them indoor to save them.
⸻
💧 Watering Strategy
More heat doesn’t mean more water.
Water early morning, and only again in evening if the soil feels dry.
Wet soil + heat = root damage, not relief. Water Indoor kept plants only when their soil is dry not as a routine. If your plants are in cocopeat or clay soil always poke your finger to identify if they need water.
⸻
🪴 Soil & Pot Protection
In this heat, soil loses moisture very fast.
Covering the top with dry leaves or coco chips helps retain moisture and keeps roots cooler. Get the dry leaves from a garden or park and cover the soil.
Small step, big difference.
⸻
🌿 Leaf Care
Dust + heat = stressed leaves.
Clean leaves once a week with a foam or cotton cloth. You can also mist lightly in the morning.
Plants breathe better when leaves are clean. If leaves are getting yellow due to heat you can use epsom salt mixed in water(1tsp per litre) once in a month.
⸻
🌡 Placement Adjustment
Some plants can’t handle direct heat.
Money plant, ferns, indoor plants — move them to indirect light. They also love humidity. So don’t miss misting occasionally. If possible, keep some small stones below the pot and put some water in it. They will provide humidity.
Your balcony has micro-zones — use them.
⸻
🌵 Succulents & Cactus
They love light, but not extreme heat.
Keep them bright but protected from harsh afternoon sun.
And yes — water even less than usual. Let them dry fully before watering. If you see top layer dry give one more day to dry, it will be safer and healthier for them.
⸻
⚠️ Common Mistakes
Most people kill plants in summer by:
Overwatering
Keeping them in full sun
Ignoring early leaf damage. Avoid direct sunlight if temperatures going above 40 degrees.
Don’t do this.
⸻
✨ Final Thought
In 40–45°C, don’t expect growth.
Focus on keeping your plants alive and healthy — growth will come later.
