Sunrise at Yamuna Ghat, Delhi
Yamuna Ghat is one of the oldest pockets of Delhi, dotted with numerous temples. The ghats are maintained by the handful of people living here. They have no facilities. They do their morning puja & rituals, and carry on with life as usual, without any complaints. They don't have any special sources of income barring the boat rides. So, obviously, there is a lot of haggling for every boat ride.
The ghats which should at the least be clean, well equipped, and promoted for tourism, are lying ignored. The river water cannot be drunk. Devouts still offer puja, as the river is sacred to Hindus. The water is not dirty from puja, but from many other wastes discharged into it at different points of the river.
It is in a pitiful state. One of the most beautiful sunrises, and heritage area, which would be as sacred to Hindus as Ganga ghats, are in a state of utter neglect. No outcry, no media, no information anywhere.
Yet, the place warms your heart in just a few minutes. That is the power of these places. They enrich you even if you don't take care of them.
This is the story of sacred places to Hindus.
