When I look back at my story I see how people's perception towards my beauty changed at different stages of my life, while I was just being me in the skin I was born with.
As an adolescent, having an acne prone wheatish complexion, I often had low self esteem because of all the unnecessary comments and conversations a young child can easily have to go through.
India is a nation that is still engrossed into the idealism of fair skin, so much so that people don't hesitate to comment on someone's looks straight to their face.
Thankfully I was born to open minded, amazing parents and brothers so those unnecessary comments didnโt leave a deep scar on me.
As my acne disappeared and my skin tone became even and glowing, I could feel that special mention to me, every time I met people.
Suddenly, I could feel the heads turn, every time I entered a room.
It was a great feeling and followed by a lot of attention everywhere I went, sometimes unwanted.
With this another problem was waiting to welcome me. I call it ๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, where a person is already percieved to be less talented or less bright due to being good looking.
There is a false notion in people's mindset that if you are a fairly good looking person, things fall in your platter, just like that.
In my university days I found my professors shocked when I made the top of the class, and one of my classmates asked if I had sent my photograph in along with my exam papers.
The perception of an intelligent girl was someone who would not groom or dress well.
So, this journey from being an unattractive teen who has to go through all the weird comments to now, has been quite a learning experience.
My sun kissed skin remained the same, people's perception changed drastically, dont know why
