Vadehra Art Gallery (VAG) has promoted modern and contemporary Indian art through exhibitions, retrospectives, publications and educational programs since 1987. Since its inception in 1987, Vadehra Art Gallery has promoted contemporary Indian art through exhibitions, retrospectives, publications and educational programs. In addition to promoting the visibility of both recognized and underground I

ndian artists, we have also initiated an education non-profit organization called the Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA) where you can use our reading room and bookstore full of art books and products. We have many gallery spaces in New Delhi, and we also have a gallery in London called Grosvenor Vadehra.

𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 | 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 | 𝐀𝐧𝐣𝐮 𝐃𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐲𝐚

We are delighted to present the work of 𝐀𝐧𝐣𝐮 𝐃𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐲𝐚 (Anju Dodiya). Drawing from influences as diverse as Italian medieval painting, literature, cinema and Japanese woodblock prints, Anju Dodiya works across painting, drawing and mixed media. Her elegant handling of line and form and her use of muted tones often sit in stark contrast to the tumultuous and charged interior world she conjures. Working with watercolour, a medium associated with restraint, delicacy and impermanence, Dodiya pushes its use to the extreme, creating large-scale works that strain against the fragility of the paper itself, often set alongside hard-edged charcoal marks that puncture the softness of her washes.
She has extended this vocabulary onto unconventional supports too, staining and stitching directly into mattresses, embroidered fabric and quilted surfaces – material choices that root her theatrical, dreamlike scenes in the domestic and in the body and its vulnerabilities.

Her work has been exhibited widely, including a solo booth at Frieze Masters, London (2025); 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘕𝘰𝘯-𝘈𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 (𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘈𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘢 𝘋𝘶𝘣𝘦), fourth edition of the 𝗞𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶–𝗠𝘂𝘇𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲 (2018); 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦, Frieze Cork Street, London (2022); 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥𝘴 (𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘭 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘯𝘣𝘢𝘶𝘮), 𝟱𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲, Venice (2009), and others.   We are pleased to present Anju’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘙𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘦 in 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 curated by Linsey Young ().

𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐁.𝐑. (shailesh B.R) at Wild Bits (Wild Bits / Metsikud bitid) 2027, Maajaam (Maajaam), Estonia.

We are pleased to share 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐁.𝐑.‘s participation in Wild Bits 2027, an exhibition exploring the intersections of technology and nature at Maajaam, Estonia.

For the exhibition, Shailesh presents 𝘚𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦, a site-responsive work that draws on the Nyaya principle of inference to examine how signs become conclusions. Through the separation of smoke from its expected consequence, the work creates a space for uncertainty, perception and pause.

Also made during his residency, we’re happy to share that Shailesh’s 𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘗𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 is currently on view at 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐢 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at Bikaner House.

𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘗𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 is a series of ten paintings created en plein air during Shailesh’s residency in Tartu, Estonia, as small, immediate encounters with the landscape beyond his studio, which revealed a pony farm stretching across an immense green field, interrupted only by a narrow pink road.

Following his residency at Maajaam, 𝘚𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦 is now installed as part of the residency exhibition in Estonia.

P.D. Dhumal’s 𝙉𝙤𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙨 brings together nearly five decades of printmaking, teaching, and an unwavering commitment to the medium.

Working across woodcut, wood engraving, linocut and etching, P.D. Dhumal’s prints transform the graphic language of monochrome into charged, theatrical compositions. Bulls, snakes, birds and human figures emerge from dense fields of black, their forms shifting between the instinctual and the erotic, the tender and the feral.
Drawing on both the sculptural traditions of Konark and Khajuraho and the legacy of Indian modernism, his prints reveal a distinctive visual language shaped by chiaroscuro, surrealist fluidity and an acute sensitivity to the possibilities of the single woodblock.

A master printmaker and educator, Dhumal’s influence extends far beyond his own practice. Across 38 years at M.S. University, Baroda, he helped shape generations of artists and the development of printmaking as a rigorous artistic discipline in India.

𝙉𝙤𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙨 is the first major solo exhibition dedicated to his printmaking practice, bringing together nearly 80 works produced over two decades from his archive.

We are delighted to share glimpses from the programming accompanying the current group exhibition, 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚, at our D-53 Gallery space.

As part of the programme, Rafooghar (Rafooghar- the house that mends) conducted 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘯 𝘒𝘪 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘵, a mending circle workshop that explored ideas of rupture, repair, and resilience through the material of fabric. Through cutting, stitching, and layering, participants were invited to engage with cloth as a surface for personal expression, reflection, and quiet transformation.

Rafooghar is a socially engaged art practice and community space in one of New Delhi’s most marginalised neighbourhoods, where women come together for moments of rest, leisure, and connection—spaces and pauses that are often denied to women living on the margins. Through embroidery and textiles, Rafooghar creates tools for emotional repair, rejuvenation, and resistance, making room for forms of mending that extend far beyond fabric.

Mann Ki Marammat offered a space to pause, create, share, and mend—together.

We are delighted to present the work of 𝐉𝐚𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐧 (Jai Chuhan artist). Exploring the themes of ‘refuge, home and unhome’, Jai’s paintings and drawings depict an expressionist approach towards figuration and portraiture, with an interest in the female body and n**e form, and engage in discourse of gender, race, identity and the transcultural subject.

Her work has been exhibited widely, including Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, Tate Liverpool, and the Barbican Centre, London, among others. Her work is in public collections of institutions such as the Tate, Victoria Gallery & Museum, and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.

We are pleased to present Chuhan’s work in 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 curated by 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 ().

We are excited to share installation views from 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚, a group exhibition curated by Linsey Young ()

The exhibition featuring the work of eight acclaimed South Asian artists, including Anju Dodiya (Anju Dodiya), Arpita Singh, Ashfika Rahman (Ashfika Rahman), Gurminder Sikand, Jai Chuhan (Jai Chuhan artist), Jasleen Kaur (Jasleen Kaur), Leela Mukherjee, Mumtaz Karimjee, and Sheba Chhachhi.

Drawing its conceptual frame from Marge Piercy’s 1976 novel of the same title, 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 builds on Piercy’s questions about bodily autonomy, ecology, inheritance, and the speculative possibilities of equitable futures.

Spanning installation, painting, drawing, and photography, the show traces a path from institutional and clinical confinement towards collective political testimony, and from there towards land, myth, and inheritance.

Across geographies and generations, the exhibition asks what contemporary artists and viewers owe to the women who came before them, and what future can still be built from that inheritance, echoing Piercy’s own vision of feminist continuity reaching backwards and forwards through time.

We are pleased to share installation views from Nocturnes | P.D. Dhumal.
 Purushottam Dhumal studied Painting and Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda between 1965 and 1971, also having served as Dean of the Department of Printmaking for over 7 years.

Spanning over five decades, his practice has continually expanded the expressive possibilities of printmaking, moving fluidly between painting, wood engraving, etching, and drawing while remaining deeply attentive to the relationship between image, memory, and observation.

The exhibition brings together works that reflect Dhumal’s sustained engagement with printmaking over the decades.
