संलग्न चित्र सभ अंग्रेजीसँ मैथिली केर भाषिक स्थिति संबंधी विषय पर हिन्दीमे भेल एकटा गम्भीर कुतर्क (मिस-ट्रांसलेशन) केँ स्पष्ट रूपसँ देखबैत अछि। एहन लापरवाह आ वैचारिक पक्षपातसँ प्रेरित अनुवाद सभ भारतक बौद्धिक परंपराकेँ दीर्घकाल धरि क्षति पहुँचौने अछि आ अनेक अवसर पर अनावश्यक आंतरिक सांस्कृतिक आ भाषिक टकरावक आधार बनल अछि।

प्रख्यात भारतीय विद्वान डॉ. सुकुमार सेन (1900–1992) अपन ग्रंथ हिस्ट्री ऑफ बंगाली लिटरेचरमे जे 1960 केर दशकमे नई दिल्ली स्थित भारतीय साहित्यक प्रतिष्ठित संस्था साहित्य अकादेमी सँ प्रकाशित भेल अछि। तात्कालिक प्रधानमंत्री ओ साहित्य अकादेमिक अध्यक्ष पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू अहि पुस्तकक प्रस्तावना लिखने छथि। सुकुमार बाबू बांग्ला साहित्यक संग-संग मैथिलीक विकास पर सेहो विस्तारसँ विचार कएने छथि ओ मैथिलीक स्वतंत्र साहित्यिक आ भाषिक परंपराकेँ स्वीकार कएने छथि, जे सम्पूर्ण ग्रन्थमे कतेको बेर सन्दर्भित अछि। यद्यपि एहि ग्रंथमे किछु तथ्यात्मक त्रुटि देखाए पड़ैत अछि। विशेष रूपसँ पारिजात हरण केर रचयिता उमापति उपाध्याय केँ समय ओ अन्य संदर्भमे, तथापि ई विद्वत् शोधमे होमय बला संभव मानवीय भूलक श्रेणी मे आबैत अछि। ई त्रुटि नर्मला जैन ( जन्म1931) प्रसिद्ध हिन्दी साहित्यकार द्वारा कएल गेल हिन्दी अनुवाद 'बांग्ला साहित्य का इतिहास' मे उपस्थित व्याख्यात्मक विकृतिसँ सर्वथा भिन्न प्रकृतिक केँ अछि।

उक्त हिन्दी अनुवाद अत्यंत निराशाजनक अछि आ अकादमिक ईमानदारी केर मौलिक सिद्धांत सभक उल्लंघन करैत अछि। मैथिलीकेँ पूर्वी हिन्दीक एकटा बोलीक रूपमे प्रस्तुत करबाक प्रयास एहन तर्क स्थापित करैत अछि जे मूल अंग्रेजी पाठमे नञि उपलब्ध अछि आ नहि तऽ स्थापित भाषावैज्ञानिक अध्ययनसँ समर्थित अछि। एहि प्रकारक गलत प्रस्तुति विषयगत अयोग्यता मात्र नहि, बल्कि पूर्वी इंडो-आर्य भाषिक परंपरा प्रति एक गहिर पूर्वाग्रही दृष्टिकोणकेँ सेहो उजागर करैत अछि। एहन हस्तक्षेप मैथिलीक ओहि स्वायत्तताकेँ कमजोर करैत अछि, जे एकटा ऐतिहासिक रूपसँ प्रमाणित क्लासिकल भाषा होएबाक नाते ओकर विशिष्ट व्याकरणिक संरचना, तिरहुता लिपिक परंपरा आ चर्या पद-ज्योतिरीश्वर, विद्यापति, उमापति, परमेश्वर झा, हरिमोहन झा, यात्री जी ओ अन्य लेखककेँ रचना सँ यात्रा करैत वर्तमान धरिक समृद्ध साहित्यिक विरासतमे निहित अछि।

पिछला कतेको दशकसँ अनुवाद पर निर्भर हिन्दी पाठक वर्ग भारतक भाषिक बहुलता केर विकृत छवि लगातार देखैत आ पढ़ैत आएल अछि। ई सभ विकृति पदानुक्रमात्मक आ एकरूपतावादी ढाँचाकेँ मजबूत करैत अछि, जाहिसँ मैथिली आ अन्य भारतीय भाषा परिधि पर ढकेल देल जाइत अछि। ई परिधिकरण केवल विमर्श स्तर तक सीमित नहि, संस्थागत स्तर पर सेहो स्पष्ट अछि। जकर प्रमाण पिछला महिनाक राज्य सरकार द्वारा पटना स्थित मैथिली अकादेमीक कथित ताला बंदीक समाचारसँ भेटैत अछि। एहि निर्णयक विरोधमे सोशल मीडिया, गाम-समाज आ विश्वविद्यालय परिसर सभमे मैथिल समुदाय द्वारा शांतिपूर्ण प्रतिरोध व्यक्त कएल गेल अछि। निराधार तर्क गढ़बाक लेल अनुवादमे भेल हेरफेर स्वयं अनुवाद-विधाकेँ कमजोर करैत अछि। अनुवाद, जे ज्ञानक सेतु होएबाक चाही, एहन प्रयाससँ भाषिक इतिहास मिटाबय आ बौद्धिक बहुलता दबाबय केँ वैधानिक स्रोत बनि जाइत अछि।

The attached images demonstrate a grave mistranslation from English into Hindi concerning the linguistic status of Maithili. Such careless and ideologically loaded translations have caused lasting harm to India’s intellectual traditions and have frequently contributed to avoidable internal cultural and linguistic conflicts.

The eminent Indian scholar Dr. Sukumar Sen (1900–1992), in his book History of Bengali Literature, published by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in the 1960s with a foreword by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, discusses the development of Maithili alongside Bengali, acknowledging its independent literary and linguistic trajectory. Although his work contains certain factual inaccuracies—particularly with regard to figures such as Umapati Upadhyaya, the author of Parijat Haran—these errors fall within the realm of scholarly fallibility. They are categorically different from the interpretative distortion introduced in the Hindi translation, Bangla Sahitya Ka Itihas by Nirmala Jain (b. 1931), a noted Hindi sahityakar.

The Hindi translation is deeply disappointing and constitutes a violation of basic principles of academic honesty. By attempting to present Maithili as a dialect of Eastern Hindi, the translator advances an argument that is neither present in the original English text nor supported by established linguistic scholarship. This misrepresentation reflects not only a lack of subject-specific competence but also a prejudiced understanding of the eastern Indo-Aryan linguistic tradition. Such interventions undermine the autonomy of Maithili as a historically attested language with a distinct grammatical structure, scriptural tradition, and literary corpus.

For several decades, Hindi readers dependent on translations have been systematically exposed to distorted representations of India’s linguistic plurality. These distortions reinforce hierarchical and homogenising frameworks that marginalise languages such as Maithili. This marginalisation is not merely discursive but institutional, as evidenced by the recent reported closure of the Maithili Akademi in Patna by the state government, which has triggered peaceful protests by Maithil communities across social media platforms, villages, and university spaces. The practice of manipulating translations to manufacture unfounded arguments undermines the discipline itself: translation, instead of functioning as a bridge of knowledge, is transformed into an instrument for erasing linguistic histories and suppressing intellectual plurality.

महामहोपाध्याय परमेश्वर झा (27. 12. 1856, तरौनी गाम, दरभंगा- 30. 06. 1924.) रमेश्वरलता संस्कृत कॉलेज, दरभंगा मे प्रिंसिपलक पद पर आसीन छलथि। प्रतिष्ठित भारत धर्म महामण्डलक 'वैयाकरण केसरी' क उपाधि सँ विभूषित छलाह। मिथिला वांग्मय के उद्द्भट विद्वान झा अनेकों पोथीक रचना केलथि जाहिमे दसकर्मपद्धति, छान्दोग्य सत्सर्ग, यक्षसमागम, मिथिलातत्वविमर्श, परमेश्वर-कोश, सदाचार दर्पण आदि प्रतिनिधि ग्रन्थ मानल जाइत अछि।

मैथिली साहित्यमे अपन कृति ‘मिथिलातत्वविमर्श’ तथा ‘सीमंतिनी आख्यायिका’क कारणे महत्त्वपूर्ण स्थान रखैत छथि । ई महाराज रमेश्वर सिंहक दरवारमे राज-पंडितक पदपर अनेको वर्ष धरि सुप्रतिष्ठित छलाह ।

World Heritage Day!

Kandaha Temple is situated in Saharsa district of Bihar on the banks of river Dharmula river, adjacent to the mighty river Kosi. It is a very important Surya Mandir in Mithila, was rebuilt by a devotee named Vamshadhara in shaka era 1357 during the reign of Narsimhdeva. The sculpture installed in the Garbhgriha is huge though considerably defaced and fragmented. The main statue carved out of black stone is 3.5 feet in hight. The temple still has inscriptions in Sanskrit though the script is Mithilakshar.

The present book discusses important issues of socio-economic life of Mithila which has not yet fully attracted the attention of the trained historians. The aspects of cultural life of the people of Medieval North Bihar are well discussed by using rare sources and these sources are still waiting for the young historians who are supposed to work on these themes. There doesn't seem much difference between Mithila's past and present cultural traits of a civilizational journey. As we know that the Panji system was introduced in the beginning of the fourteenth century CE during the reign of the King Harisimhadeva. Panji system is basically record keeping system of Maithilas or Videhas. It worked as a remarkable institution of the society even nowadays also some Maithilas are using it to record their genealogy and Panjikars seat in the Sabhagachhi, Saurath, Madhubani, Mithila. Professor Thakur has studied the complexities of this social organisation in Ishanya Bharat, Maithili speaking region. Prof. Thakur has also discussed the economic condition with some refresh arguments and sources. The text also explores the aspects of the evolution and development of Maithili Script and literature of the period in the cosmopolitan environ of Sanskrit. While discussing everyday life of Mithila, Prof. Thakur also writes about the growth of trade and commerce and its decay with the advent of the East India company.
