Snippets showing the growing web of knowledge through the last few days in Het Verhalenhuis. The installation aimed to bring together the conversations, memories and objects from the culturally diverse neighbourhood of Woensel West. The conversations took place during sunny afternoons in the park, on the streets, over warm dinner and several cups of coffee.

The rhizomatic structure or the “web of wool”, which serves as the base of the work, takes inspiration from Deleuze and Guattari’s Rhizome Theory.
A rhizome is “always in the middle, in between things” and never complete. However, these randomly linked connections continually multiply, promote further growth of knowledge and create non-linear cultural networks.

We invited neighbours and visitors to join the network, by sharing their knowledge and adding it to the web of stories.

In India during the last five decades, more than 50 million people have been uprooted from their homes due to development-induced displacement. The displaced persons are mostly asset-less rural poor like landless labourers, small farmers, tribals, Dalits and Adivasis.

For the sake of national interest and development, these millions bear witness to the destruction of their own lives and livelihoods with bleak hopes of rehabilitation or settlement.

This short film captures the unsettling experience of displacement and homelessness transformed into a state of suspension.

HOME, SUSPENDED is a part of SitaaurGita, an ongoing movement-based video series on sociopolitical factors of India. The series attempts to illustrate the social, political & cultural fabric and investigate how deeply they are intertwined. The issues addressed, though pan-Indian in their discourse, have been showcased in an urban middle-class perspective.

Performers - Pragati Agarwal & Nikita Maheshwary
DoP - Sangeeta Banerjee & Ashish Banerjee
Editor - Amit Chatterjee

After months of back and forth & revisiting the same topic with different approaches, we are now a little closer to what might (or might not) be an apt way to talk about this multi-layered issue - DRUGS.

The geographical, political, social and cultural dimensions are so entangled that, first time in a long time dance didn't feel like the right language to address it.
