Designers, artists, researchers, scenographers, architects, mycologists, and storytellers converge at the Delhi Lab, bringing practices shaped by ecology, material experimentation, spatial thinking, and more-than-human collaboration.

This cohort explores everything from mycelium-based materials and biomaterial research to exhibition design, digital fabrication, ecological inquiry, and participatory modes of making. Together, they expand what design can be when it works with living systems, local knowledge, and collective imagination.

Meet the Participants | Elemental Imprints: Bio Design Lab South Asia, Delhi | Part 1/2 🌱

From artists, architects, designers, researchers, and mycologists to worldbuilders, writers, and material innovators, this cohort brings together a rich spectrum of practices working at the intersections of ecology, design, technology, craft, and living systems.

Over the coming days, these participants will engage in collective learning, experimentation, and dialogue, exploring biomaterials, fungal futures, ecological storytelling, regenerative design, and new ways of collaborating with more-than-human worlds. Multiple disciplines. Shared questions. One laboratory for imagining and materialising regenerative futures. 🌿

What does it mean to grow with the unknown?

🌿At the Delhi Lab ('Mycelium. Growing with the Unknown') for 'Elemental Imprints: Bio Design Lab South Asia', our mentors hold space for curiosity, experimentation, and exchange, helping participants navigate the fertile intersections of ecology, materiality, design, and imagination.

✨ Julia Ihls, an interdisciplinary designer and researcher based in Karlsruhe, Germany, heads the Bio Design Lab at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Her work explores the intersections of biology, design, and emerging material practices.

✨ Bhakti Loonawat and Suyash Sawant, co-founders of Anomalia, an experimental architecture and design practice based in Mumbai, bring their engagement with material research, ecological thinking, and speculative futures to the lab.

The 10-day Mycelium Lab in Delhi, part of Elemental Imprints: Biodesign Lab South Asia.

The lab brings together artists, designers, and practitioners who will explore the creative potential of mycelium as a living, responsive material for design and architecture. They will be mentored by Suyash and Bhakti, (Co-founders of Anomalia Design Studio), and Julia Ihls, (Managing Director, Biodesign Lab HfG Karlsruhe), and will interact with a slew of ideas, concepts, and professionals working with this multifaceted material.
