Edible Bodies
By Najrin Islam

Titled 'Edible Bodies', this meandering note reflects on how edibility maps itself on the politically-inscribed body through select projects mounted as part of Five Million Incidents.

"In Uyuni, Bolivia, there’s a large expanse of land covered with salt crust and several inches of water. The expanse extends beyond one’s range of vision and merges with the sky while also doubling it in reflection. You may be familiar with the image; the horizon disappears and the standing body looks suspended in a sublime void.

What is the horizon anyway? Is it not a geometrical figment conjured to keep the terra firma separate from the sky, and preserve the division to enable imaginations of transgression and romantic transcendence? That line in the distance is ever-elusive. Can we move beyond the centrality of the horizon in our imagination and find a new language for beings that occupy the fissures in our binary constructs? A misplaced comma, a non-sequitur, words that spill beyond margins, the subaltern body in the kitchen, her vernacular twang. Disruptive oralities."

It was 23rd of February 2020 in Delhi when the time was full dark the first mushroom flourished. I found it the next day on Monday, 24th of February at 06:12 pm.
Mushroom emerges when something is dead and bring a new life again. That gives us a hope, a hope of positivity or a hope of something new beginning.
In 1945 the landscape of Hiroshima was destroyed by an atomic bomb and the all living forms was destroyed in this disaster. After a long time the only life form that emerged was a mushroom called Matsutake.

The spores are ready to spread in the air, we carry them outside through our body. Some of them will find a dark place and some will go into the soil after rain.
