: Every year, billions of plastic items are produced with serious impacts on our environment. From land-based life forms being strangled in discarded plastics, to plastic particles entering our waterways and oceans and disrupting delicate ecosystems – this is a problem that affects us all.

While biodegradable plastics are a step in the right direction, reducing our overall plastic consumption is the most effective solution.

This World Environment Day, Let’s unravel the truth behind biodegradable plastic myths.

How does nature inspire you to protect the environment?

We all share a responsibility to protect, conserve and manage the earth’s natural resources.

Everyone depends on natural resources such as air, water, food, minerals, animals, trees and gas. To enable the continuation of these resources, various species must continue to exist: making conservation vital.

And It all starts at home, if we want to change the world, we should change ourselves. Here are a few ways through which one can contribute his/ her bit to protect the environment :

Ensure Water Conservation:

One can start using techniques like rainwater harvesting.
A bucket can be used instead of a shower.
The wasted water can be used to water plants.

Plant Trees:

One can practice home gardening.
One can build a small yet useful kitchen garden.

Waste Management:

Recycle waste by weekly pick ups / drops off at a local recycling company.
Organic compost can be produced using waste.

Calculate and offset your carbon footprint:

Carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions.

We need to make small changes to our actions, like calculating and reducing our commute mediums, planting tress, eating less meat, taking less connecting flights and line drying our clothes.

Whether you want to protect endangered species or promote clean energy, The earth needs us, Please do take some time to learn about environmental and social issues. 🙏🏽❤️

Changing our world will require us to change our worldview.

Deep ecology is an environmental philosophy that weaves together science and spirituality. It advocates for a societal shift from a worldview that places humans at the center to one that sees us as equal in importance to all life on Earth—one strand in the web of life.

In this week's edition of The Overview, walks us through key tenets of deep ecology. Swipe to read.

We can, You can & we really should! Can’t get simpler than this!
Perfection is not the goal, It is, however, about striving to do things differently – with treading more softly on our Earth as our focus.

It is a constant process of refinement, of trying and failing and trying again. It is about finding better habits that we can sustain in the long term. It’s just to keep making progress. Let's do this!

1. Eat less meat
If you are a regular meat eater, one of the easiest ways to have a huge positive impact (and save money) is to cut a bunch of meat out.
A day with less meat is a day you are saving the world.

2. Skip the straw
It takes nearly no effort to say "No Straw Please!" and you get to feel that Earth-Saving glow all day long.

3. Buy Less
It's easier to just not shop. Start a list on your phone or fridge. When you feel the need to buy something, just write it there and yourself if you really need this item.

4. Run it when it’s full.
Don’t do your laundry until you have a whole load. While you are at it, switch all your washing options to cold water. Super easy, and the vast majority of the power a washer uses is just for heating the water up.

5. Turn off the lights and unplug what you aren’t using.
We all know this, but how many of us actually do it? If you are a creature of habit, start a new routine and you will be saving power in no time.

We can, You can, We can all do it!
