“Variable Registers: Printmaking in Modern India” traces a golden era when artists transformed printmaking from reproduction into an independent medium.

From Chughtai, Chittaprosad and Haren Das, to Krishna Reddy, Zarina, Jagmohan Chopra, Somnath H**e, Laxma Goud and Devraj Dakoji, artists pushed the medium through experimentation, collaboration and exchange.

Because printmaking is democratic not simply because it can exist in multiples, but because so many hands leave their impression upon it.

Variable Registers traces that journey, one impression at a time.

Variable Registers: Printmaking in Modern India (1930s–1980s) opened to a wonderful gathering at our preview on 2nd August at Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam!

Curated by Prima Kurien, the exhibition traces eight decades of printmaking practice in India, and it was heartening to see art lovers, collectors, and friends of Dhoomimal Art Centre come together to celebrate this journey.

The show is now open and on view till 9th August, 11 AM – 7 PM (Mon–Sun). Do drop by and experience it in person before it closes.
