Indian football is facing a moment of deep uncertainty. With the 2025–26 Indian Super League season still suspended, concerns over the future of the sport are growing louder.
In a rare and emotional move, senior national team players including Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, and Sandhesh Jhingan have appealed directly to FIFA for intervention. In a joint message, they warned that Indian football is heading towards “permanent paralysis,” describing an environment filled with fear, uncertainty, and administrative collapse.
The players accused football authorities in India of failing to meet their responsibilities, stressing that their appeal is not political in nature. Instead, they described the situation as a humanitarian, sporting, and economic crisis that threatens the livelihoods of players, staff, and clubs across the country.
Their message is clear and urgent: Indian football needs clarity, stability, and governance. Without timely action, they fear the game may struggle to survive - leaving players, clubs, and fans in limbo.
