공공조형물은 작가의 작업 언어 유지를 투쟁하면서도 하나의 완결되고 이상적인, 고정된 형태로 머물 수 없기 때문이다. 건축과 장소, 구조와 기술, 안전과 내구성, 제작과 유지관리 같은 조건이 작품의 크기와 재료, 배열과 구현 방식을 필연적으로 조정하게 만든다. 미술관의 작품을 크게 만들어 외부에 옮겨놓는 것이 공공 작업으로 성립하지 못하는 이유도 여기에 있다. 여기에서 중요한 것은 이러한 현실적 조건을 예술 바깥의 제약으로만 보는 것이 아니라, 작가의 조형적 판단과 만나 작품의 형태를 만들어가는 과정으로 바라보는 일일 것이다.

박근호(참새), 이재형, 정정주, 한승구 단체전 《IN SCALE》이 성황리에 개막했습니다.

《IN SCALE》은 우리가 하나의 완성된 작품으로 바라보는 공공조형물 뒤에 존재하는 수많은 선택과 변화의 흔적을 들여다봅니다. 완성된 결과와 그에 이르기까지의 과정을 함께 펼쳐 보이며, 작품이 하나의 고정된 형태로 존재하는 것이 아니라 다양한 조건과 관계 속에서 끊임없이 조정되고 새롭게 만들어지는 과정을 보여주고자 합니다.

전시는 계속 진행되오니 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.


The group exhibition 《IN SCALE》 by PARK Geunho (Chamsae), LEE Jaehyung, JEONG Jeongjoo, and HAN Seunggu has opened at Keumsan Gallery.

《IN SCALE》 looks beyond the finished form of public sculpture to explore the ㅍㅁvarious decisions, adjustments, and traces of transformation embedded within its creation. By bringing together both the completed works and the processes behind them, the exhibition considers how a work is not fixed in a single form, but is continuously shaped and reconfigured through different conditions and relationships.

The exhibition is now on view through September 30.

금산갤러리는 8월 31일(월)부터 9월 30일(수)까지 박근호(참새), 이재형, 정정주, 한승구 단체전 《IN SCALE》을 선보입니다.

《IN SCALE》은 공공조형물이 완성된 형태에 이르기까지의 창작 과정과 그 안에 담긴 작가의 조형적 판단을 살펴보는 전시입니다. 이번 전시에서는 디지털 기술을 기반으로 작업해온 네 작가가 미술관과 갤러리, 건축과 도시의 공공 공간을 오가며 자신의 작업세계를 확장해온 과정을 조명합니다. 특히 모형과 오브제에서 건축과 도시의 공공 공간으로 이어지는 작업의 변화를 ‘Scale’과 ‘Module’이라는 개념을 통해 살펴보며, 서로 다른 장소와 조건을 만나는 과정에서 작품의 형태와 구조, 그리고 작가의 작업 언어가 어떻게 변형되고 재구성되는지를 탐구합니다.

8월 31일(월) 오후 4시부터 전시 관람이 가능하며, 오후 5시부터 진행되는 오프닝에서는 네 작가를 직접 만나 작업에 담긴 이야기를 보다 가까이에서 들어보실 수 있습니다.


KEUMSAN GALLERY is pleased to present 《IN SCALE》, a group exhibition featuring PARK Geunho(Sparrow), LEE Jaehyung, JEONG Jeongju, and HAN Seunggu, from August 31(Mon) through September 30(Wed).

《IN SCALE》 explores the creative processes through which public artworks arrive at their completed forms, as well as the artistic and formal decisions embedded within them. The exhibition highlights the ways in which the four artist—whose practices have been grounded in digital technology—have expanded their artistic languages by moving between museums and galleries, architecture, and public spaces within the urban environment. The exhibition examines the evolution of their practices in particular through the concepts of “Scale” and “Module.” It considers how the forms and structures of their works, as well as their artistic vocabularies, are transformed and reconfigured as they encounter different sites and conditions.

The exhibition opens to the public at 4PM on August 31.
An opening reception will follow at 5PM, with the four artists in attendance.

오주연 작가는 가죽이라는 소재와 바느질이라는 반복적인 노동을 통해 전통 민화인 책가도를 현대적인 조각으로 풀어낸다. 대학원 졸업 직후 시작된 15년간의 해외 생활은 오히려 그에게 한국인으로서의 정체성을 깊이 돌아보게 한 시간이었고, 귀국 후 몰두한 가죽공예는 흩어져 있던 삶의 경험과 시간을 하나의 작업으로 이어주는 전환점이 되었다.

그의 작업은 전통 책가도가 지닌 사랑방의 문화를 바느질이라는 여성적인 방식으로 다시 읽어내는 데서 출발한다. 과거 남성들의 공간을 장식하던 책가도를 가죽을 꿰매는 행위로 새롭게 만들어내며, 그 의미를 여성의 공간인 규방으로 옮겨온다. 평면 속 책과 문방구를 입체적인 가죽 오브제로 구현하는 작업은 개인의 취향과 욕망이 담긴 사물들을 하나의 공간 안에 엮어내는 과정이며, 전통을 오늘의 삶과 감각으로 다시 이어가는 시도이기도 하다.


Juyeon OH reinterprets the traditional Korean chaekgeori (scholars‘ bookcase painting) as contemporary sculpture through the materiality of leather and the repetitive labor of stitching. The fifteen years she spent living abroad immediately after completing graduate school became an unexpected period of profound reflection on her identity as a Korean. Upon returning, she immersed herself in leathercraft, transforming scattered experiences and accumulated time into a cohesive artistic practice.

Her work begins by reexamining the cultural significance of chaekgeori—historically associated with the sarangbang, the private study of the male scholar—through the traditionally feminine act of sewing. By reconstructing chaekgeori through meticulously stitched leather, she shifts its symbolic context from the masculine domain of the scholar’s study to the intimate space of the gyubang, the women‘s quarters. Rendering the books and scholarly objects of the painted composition as three-dimensional leather forms, she assembles objects imbued with personal taste, memory, and desire into a unified spatial installation. In doing so, she forges a dialogue between tradition and contemporary life, reimagining cultural heritage through the sensibilities of the present.
