Naada Inbam - SVK Birthday Concert Series
16.04.26 Thursday 6.15 p.m.
SVK Birthday Concert -
Dr Sumithra Vasudev - Vocal,
Vidushi Charulatha Ramanujam - Violin,
Vidwan B Ganapathiraman - Mridangam.
Ragasudha Hall, Rasikas Welcome.
If SVK, my father were alive today, he would be immensely proud to see the way his protégés have gone on to become remarkable musicians standing tall, bearing aloft the flag of Carnatic music in its ultimate essence, guided by the age-old traditional values handed over to them by their legendary Gurus.
Sumithra Vasudev was one of Appa’s favourite singers, all the more so because of her rigorous tutelage under R. Vedavalli mami—whose music needs no introduction or endorsement from the likes of us. Suffice it to say that Sumithra has learned, imbibed, and internalised mami’s bani over so many years, singing alongside her with such dedication, that she can well be regarded as a model Vedavalli of the present generation.
Her rich voice defies stereotypes. There is no shrillness,no lightness, no floating melodies and yet, the connoisseurs and uninitiated rasikas alike find magic in her music.
In Charulatha Ramanujam, Sumithra has all she could ask for to match her own thoughts and rendering- bhava, manodharma, sweetness and richness of tone.
Ganapathiraman is yet another favourite of SVK and his cheerful demeanour as he unleashes pattern after pattern with no compromise on sowkhyam is sure to thrill SVK as he smiles down on the Hall tomorrow. Dear Rasikas, let us celebrate the birthday of this remarkable personality whose passion for music crystallised into the construction of this magnificent hall which has given listening pleasure to so many in so many years. Your presence would be the best birthday gift ( apart from the concert of course!). Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at 6.15pm

Ranjani Radha - Vocal,
C Charulatha - Veena support,
Thillaistanam Suryanarayanan - Mridangam.
Ragasudha Hall, Rasikas Welcome.
Music Circle Smt. Rajammal and Sri Kalyanaraman played an invaluable role in nurturing young Carnatic musicians by organizing monthly concerts at Ragasudha. My father, SVK, held them in the highest regard. Tomorrow’s concert is a heartfelt tribute to their memory and to the values they embodied—encouragement, mentorship, and a deep love for the art.
Ranjani Radha is a highly promising young musician whose singing is firmly rooted in classical tradition. Her voice is bright, bold, and full of character, with a clarity and strength that immediately captures attention. What truly sets her apart is the conviction in her music—it carries a compelling quality that deeply engages listeners. She will be accompanied by Ragasudha's favorite, the highly talented young vainika, C. Charulatha. Even at her young age, her command over the veena and her expressive style are genuinely remarkable and utterly endearing. Her music has the rare ability to enchant even the lay rasika. Providing rhythmic support is Vidwan Thillaisthanam Suryanarayanan, a senior, top-class mridangam artist. Dear Rasikas, do join us for this delightful Music Circle concert at Ragasudha this evening at 6:15 pm.
