It’s been a while since I picked up my brushes, and it felt so good to get back to painting again.
Painted this vibrant Cannonball Flower Nagalingam —a symbol of beauty, resilience, and tropical charm. Loved bringing it to life with the creamy brilliance of Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton watercolours, and the precision of Princeton brushes.

I’m honored to share my watercolor painting of a Neem tree, a significant piece that was showcased at the “Madras as an emotion”-themed art show curated by the talented Upasana Sameer and Pinky Jain. Using Daniel Smith paints and Princeton Gold paint brushes, this painting comes to life on Arches cold-pressed paper, capturing not just the tree but the intertwined betel leaf vine that I planted alongside it in my garden. This artwork holds personal memories, reflecting the trees I grew up with in Madras in my home.

The show featured 40 artists and was held at the prestigious Lalit Kala Academy over six days.

Thank you for allowing me to share this artistic journey with you!

I’m thrilled to share my latest work, a black and white monochrome watercolor painting, sized 2 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet, created on Arches cold-pressed paper using Daniel Smith paints and Princeton gold brushes. The subject of this piece is a banana tree from my garden, a symbol of familiarity and comfort, much like filter coffee in a traditional Madras home.

This painting is part of the Madras-themed art show curated by the wonderful Upasana Sameer and Pinky Jain, featuring 40 talented artists. The show is on for six days at the Lalit Kala Academy as part of Madras Art Weekend, celebrating the essence of Madras through various forms of art.

The banana tree is one of many trees I’ve grown up with, and it was an honor to bring that nostalgia into this exhibit.

Thrilled to share my latest commission - a surprise birthday gift for a dad . This painting captures the moment when his horse won the race in Chennai. As a woman artist who loves to experiment with different mediums, I was excited to take on this project and create something truly special. It was my first time painting this subject, but the uncertainty only fueled my excitement. And I'm so happy with how it turned out!

I'm grateful to have a go-to art supply store that always has what I need to bring my ideas to life. A big shoutout to Hindusthan Trading Company for being my go-to source for all my art supplies!

This painting is 2 feet by 4 feet and is acrylics on canvas. As an artist, I work with watercolors, acrylics, oils, paint on furniture and wall murals. I'm always eager to explore new subjects and styles, so don't hesitate to reach out if you're interested in a commission.

It’s the end of the day and I was supposed to join the and introduce myself, with a new photo, but life happens… grappling with running a home and looking after sick kids, exams, parents, and numerous hurdles that life throws at you .
I will now introduce myself -
Hi 👋, my full name is Vijayalakshmi Veerappan, and everyone calls me Vijaya.
I am married and am mom to a set of delightful twins who are turning tweens just now.
I like to see myself as a creative thinker first, am an multidisciplinary artist and an interior designer, was an avid bharatanatyam dancer long ago.
I paint on canvas with acrylics and oils, got this amazing mentor for watercolours and learned that too. I paint on canvas , paper, furniture, paint on walls, paint on steel trunks and Godrej cupboards, paint on leather shoes and paint you if you sit still long enough 😁.
I adore cooking for family and friends and am an small time kitchen gardner. I am an extroverted happy and loving person , and always try to translate that into my art and interiors.

Not very good at marketing myself or at social media…. First time I’m putting myself out there ….

You have to keep growing and changing, right….

Do follow me on for all my art filled interior projects .
