Here is my very first leather satchel / messenger bag that I made for myself (I hope)... measures 12" long by 4" deep by 8" tall. Made out of 2 mil chrome leather (black). All handmade without any machines or electricity. Loads of stitching on this one... rather enjoyable though.

Hope you are inspired by this and remember, If I can do it so can you...

Here's a wallet that I made out of the same piece of chrome tanned 1.9 mil leather that I had used in the last two posts... loved the way it turned out, bulky, rugged and tough. Hoping that it will stand the test of time and the pressures of my back pant pocket...

Hope you are inspired by this and remember, If I can do it so can you...

Here's a wooden spoon that I made out of pine... my first try. The wood has an amazing grain pattern and as is always the case with pine it takes on a good finish. Lots of work roughing out the shape and then smoothing it down to an organic shape... all hand tools and a lot of elbow grease...

Hope you are inspired by this and remember, If I can do it so can you...

For some reason this post got deleted so here I am re-posting...

This was a project I did about 4.5 years ago... The Mrs. was pregnant and we were looking out for a crib online. Everything we came across was too expensive and too flimsy. So the Mrs. told me to make it.

Made of pine, a beautiful looking and a beautiful smelling wood as well (especially if you are hand planing it... we ended up spending one fourth of what it costed, about four weekends worth of my time. But we had something that was super durable, mobile (see the wheels) and something that my son could jump on (and not have it break)...

As it has aged the pine has yellowed out beautifully. All the dents and the knocks (courtesy of my son) have given the crib character. Today he has grown out of it and it has been converted into a fabric storage for my wife (maybe my next post) with a table top for my leather work.

Anyways I hope that this has been inspirational and if I can do it so can you...

Made a leather handbag for the Mrs... happy to say that it came out well and was given the official certificate of approval...

This is made out of 1.9 to 2.0 mil chrome tanned leather that I got a while back. The brown is lovely and the photo doesn't really do it justice. As mentioned this is my first ever bag. All hand stitched so it was a lot of work. I used extra thick waxed thread.

The process of making it was "super fun" hope this inspires you to make something... After all if I can do it then just about anyone can...

This series of photos were intended to capture an attempt to convert something as bright as pine to something as dark as finished teak... considering that I had to start out with the pinkish cream hues of pine and try to convert them to the walnut brown of teak the end result is definitely satisfying to me...

Pine is a wood filled with beauty... while some will try to procure themselves wood without knots and blemishes, the beauty lies only in these details... sudden dramatic grain patterns, knots with dark centers, sharp color changes, all working in tandem lend great depth and beauty to the wood... the way the planed white pine yellows and ages to form that patina is truly a beautiful thing to observe!

Here is a diwan style cot with heavy rails and turned legs... I have included a shot of the base frame without the top for people like me who would like to look at the structure...

Hope the beauty of this wood excites you as much as it did me...!

Why do kid's furniture makers the world over keep choosing pine...?
Is it the white sanded feel with the satin finish that lures us? Or is it the subtle grain and the pastel pink hue? Or maybe how the rounded tabletop corners look? Or maybe its just that the soft wood in itself compliments the child...?

Whatever the reason pine is beautiful...!
