and daughter Vimal Shivdasanil and Monisha Gidwanii, who ran
a very successful gallery in Chennai called Vimonisha
Gallery and examined the need to promote designers
and handle their marketing and publicity. Beginning
with only five designers in each exhibition, Vimonisha
exhibitions has completed 75 shows and now has more
than 55 designers at eac
h show. The Vimonisha Private
Collection held thrice a year in Chennai is a reflection
of Monisha’s tastes and fashion preferences, and is a
carefully handpicked eclectic collection of the nation’s
best talent, which she successfully promotes in the south of
India. Being a respected and established entrepreneur in Chennai, Monisha Gidwani found it very offending when fashion designers in Mumbai and Delhi and other so called fashion capitals of India would pooh pooh the idea of a fashion exhibition in Chennai assuming that Chennai wasnt fashion forward or conscious and would think twice before coming to Chennai for a show, assuming that there was hardy any potential in this market.
