and daughter Vimal Shivdasanil and Monisha Gidwanii, who ran
a very successful gallery in Chennai called Vimonisha
Gallery and examined the need to promote designers
and handle their marketing and publicity. Beginning
with only five designers in each exhibition, Vimonisha
exhibitions has completed 75 shows and now has more
than 55 designers at eac

h show. The Vimonisha Private
Collection held thrice a year in Chennai is a reflection
of Monisha’s tastes and fashion preferences, and is a
carefully handpicked eclectic collection of the nation’s
best talent, which she successfully promotes in the south of
India. Being a respected and established entrepreneur in Chennai, Monisha Gidwani found it very offending when fashion designers in Mumbai and Delhi and other so called fashion capitals of India would pooh pooh the idea of a fashion exhibition in Chennai assuming that Chennai wasnt fashion forward or conscious and would think twice before coming to Chennai for a show, assuming that there was hardy any potential in this market. What inspired Monisha to start the now tremendously successful Vimonisha Private Collection ,was to prove to the designers from the rest of India and abroad that there truly was a buying fashion conscious audience for their creations in Chennai.It became a burning desire and a challenge to prove that yes indeed Chennai was a fantastic market brimming with potential for huge sales... the rest is history- Today, 25 years and 75 shows old, designers clamber to be part of the waiting list to partiicpate in their shows! Vimonisha Private Collection promoted by Vimonisha exhibitions is Chennai's most awaited designer show, and has completed more than 75 such shows. Held thrice a year, in luxurious five star hotels in the city, it brings together designers from all over the world for a two day show.Vimonisha Exhibitions enjoys the prestige of being Chennai’s most premium designer exhibition and the pioneer of designer exhibitions in Chennai, and takes pride in its impressive repertoire of designers that they have provided a platform to, and launched through their much awaited exhibitions repeatedly for the last 25 years.
