We walked into the Red Eye Chapters stall and immediately lost ourselves in a collection of Phantom, Mandrake, Flash Gordon comics from our childhood. But we stayed because of Sumi — and once you meet her, you’ll understand why. 🤍
Before the festival even began, Sumi was out there on her Instagram promoting every single day of Back to Our Roots — not just her stall, but the listening session, the acoustic night, the open mic, all of it. That kind of genuine enthusiasm for the indie scene is rare, and we don’t take it for granted.

Urusha’s Useless Advice and S**t Poetry Station had a queue that never stopped — live hand-drawn postcards with the most sincerely useless advice you’ve ever received. Her collab with michellin star chef on Mis-fortune Cookies was exactly what it sounds like — all the drama, none of the wisdom. Rohan’s blind book dates sent people home with something new, chosen without judgement, guided only by cryptic clues.

And last week, The Paper Dolphin celebrated 10 years with a 10/10 Paper Party — and we got to curate the playlist for it, featuring indie artists from across the country. Ten years of The Paper Dolphin. We are so glad to know you. 🤍

If every show sounds good, it’s because Wilpher won’t let it be anything less. 🎚️

Strings and Beats has been our sound partner for as long as we can remember — and at this point, calling him a vendor feels wrong. Wilpher shows up for every show, stays for every performer, and somehow still finds time to actively promote indie musicians long after the event is over and everyone else has gone home. We don’t know how he does it. We’re just glad he’s on our side.

Thank you for making Back to Our Roots sound as good as it felt. 🤍

Day 2 was something else entirely. 🎸
Come by today for the Anniversary Open Mic — Fat Jesus performs at his own open mic for the first time ever. 🎤

Last night, Seattle Wildfire proved their originals hit just as hard as their grunge tributes — acoustic and all. And then Mr. Ago and the Plastic People took the stage and somehow managed to take the entire room back to where House of T began. Psychedelic rock at its best.

Oh, and House of T merch is available on the day. Don't leave without one. 👕
