Our revered Guru, Shobana Akka, was conferred with the Doctoral Degree by Tamil University, Thanjavur-a moment of immense pride, gratitude, and quiet joy.

This honour is not just an academic milestone. It is a recognition of decades of unwavering dedication, rigorous scholarship, lived practice, and an extraordinary life devoted to Bharatanatyam๐Ÿ™- as an art, a philosophy, and a way of being.

For generations of students, she has been more than a teacher-a guiding force, a conscience, a torchbearer of tradition, and an inspiration to seek depth over display.

Presenting, a segment from the Thodi varnam where the nayika sets out to gather flowers for the Lord, but she finds them beyond her reach, blocked by thorns. Empty-handed and heavy-hearted, she walks to the temple only to find it being closed just as she was earnestly about to enter through the extravagant gopura. Still, with faith and conviction she shapes her own vigraha of the Lord and prays. To her dismay, a bolt of lightning cleaves the vigraha in twoโ€”leaving her devotion unanswered.
