முற்காலத்தில் பரம்பரையாக நட்டுவனார்கள் குடும்பத்தில் வந்தவர்களை தவிர மற்றவர்கள் நாட்டியம் மற்றும் நட்டுவாங்கம் கற்றுக்கொள்ள விருப்பப்பட்டு ஒரு குருவை தேடி சென்று அவர்கள் இடத்தில் குரு குல முறையில் பல வருடங்கள் இருந்தனர். பின்பு அந்த ஆசிரியரிடம் முறையாக பாட்டு மற்றும் நாட்டியத்தில் விருப்பமுள்ளவர்கள் நாட்டியமும் தாள நுணுக்கங்களையும் கற்று ஆசிரியர் மாணவர்களுக்கு ஒரு நல்ல நாள் பார்த்து தட்டுகழி பலகையில் பயிற்சி ஆரம்பிக்கப்படும் .இவர்கள் தனது குருமார்கள் உடன் இருந்து அவர்கள் தட்டும் நுணுக்கங்களையும் குருநாதர் சிலம்ப கூடங்களில் வகுப்பு எடுக்கும் நேரங்களில் அவர்களுடன் இருந்து இந்த தட்டுகழி பயிற்சியை மேற்கொண்டு வந்தனர்.
