Dear friends,
Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Sabha came into existence in this vibrant city of Calicut in 1965, with the pioneering efforts and active participation of a few staunch music lovers of this city.... Since then, for over five decades now, our Sabha has been consistently and dedicatedly providing a platform, promoting and exposing the music lovers of this city to pure and chaste Carnatic music. It is one of the oldest sabhas in Kerala catering exclusively to Carnatic music. This is no mean achievement.
Over the years, our Sabha has been presenting musicians of calibre – both, popular and not-so well-known, across vocal & instrumental genres. At the same time, it has also been providing platforms to promising upcoming artistes and thus creating an exclusive Carnatic music culture in this area. Our Sabha has been constantly patronised by leading musicians as well as connoisseurs and well-wishers who hold respectable and esteemed positions in the society. Most of the great names of Carnatic music today as well as in yester years have adorned the platform of the Sabha.
Of the doyens that have performed here - Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Madurai Somu, M.D.Ramanathan, M.S.Subbalakshmi, D.K.Pattammal, M.L.Vasanthakumari, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Dr. K.J.Yesudas, Radha-Jayalakshmi…and the list goes on. Apart from vocal music, maestros of Violin, Veena, Nadaswaram, Clarinet, Flute, Mandolin, Mridangam, Ghatom, Ganjira, Thavil etc. have also enthralled audiences in our Sabha. In the yester years, performing in our Sabha was considered a great honour and an acknowledgment of their excellence by musicians, which continues till date.
The year 2015 saw us celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the Sabha with celebrations spread over seven days and eminent artists providing a musical feast and enthralling the audiences.
The Sabha has been catering to the interests of its hundreds of members and discerning music lovers by organising regular monthly/by-monthly programs by well-known artistes. It also spots new talents & encourages the upcoming artistes by providing them an esteemed platform to perform.
Having served the cause of music for nearly six decades now, we hope and pray that the Sabha continues to serve for another sixty years with renewed vigor, dedication and support of the well-wishers of this city of Calicut!
